Just been reading about this on the other bit of HHO.

www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/397/291184.html

It sounds great, is for a fabulous cause that I totally support, etc, etc, BUT I do think that a £100 deposit is a heck of a lot to ask up front bearing in mind horses' tendancy to go lame at the most inconsiderate moments (well mine do anyway!), and that is before your even start trying to collect the £500 minimum sponsorship.

Am I being a miserable miser, or do you agree that these amounts will prevent the average rider from taking part?

I feel the same way as you Astra. Yes, it's a fabulous cause, and I wish them well with it, but the amounts of money involved are, I think, too prohibitive.

It's well known, isn't it? that a huge amount of riders who take part in sponsored rides pay the minimum sponsorship money themselves (easier than going out and actually finding people to sponsor you) - and that's okay if it's £20 or £25 or so.

And if the sponsorship was something like that - say £25, then I would definitely take part (as it's not that far for me to get to) and I would pay the sponsorship myself. But to have to raise £500 just to go on a 5 mile ride (however lovely the surroundings - and I know Windsor Park is wonderful to ride in) is, I'm afraid, a definite no, no for me.

Feel bad saying that, as it really is a very worthy cause and I wish them well.

I'd definitely be up for it if I could be sure I'd have a horse to ride next summer to sign up by December this year

I certainly wouldn't want to pay a £100 deposit that far in advance.

I also liked the way they said that setting off in groups of around 150 would ensure that it was safe and sensible. D would be absolutely fine but having seen how many horses do get silly in groups of that number I wouldn't fancy being around them.

Absolutely hope it will be a success.

As for me participating? They have got to be joking if they think most riders will be happy about a pack of 150.

I've registered.

BIL just done 6 months in Camp Bastion and due to go out out again so cause has a special meaning to me. And, lets face it, it is the only chance I'll ever get to ride at Ascot and I want my cob to fly past the finish line.

Ridiculous amount of money.

Where is the option the deposit is too much and the sponsor money is too much?!

I love sponsored rides, I have been on at least 9 this year, but no way would I pay this amount of money.

I always pay my own sponsor money, how can i ask friends to sponsor me for something i love doing and already do 6 times a week?
