I've only just started looking for a new horse and I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when the first 2 horses I went to view were exactly as advertised. So much so that I'm making arrangements to get one of them vetted.

This is a stark contrast to when I searched for my first horse 10 years ago and travelled long distances to see so called 'school masters' only to find nappy nags and nutters.

What's been your experience of actual horses for sale in comparison to their adverts ?

tbh I've never had a nutter! Did have one, two lines in the paper -4yr bay mare, has hunted.
Most lovely hore, 3 rising four, beautiful flawork, jumping 80cm comfortably.
What an understated horse! Friend went back to vet it, they promptly upped the price..bit annoying .
Most horses are as described, and we try and describe any we sell as accurately as possible, no point in wasted viewings!

Well i have just sold my lovely pre novice eventer, and was completely honest with the purchasers, have had two lovely texts saying how much they like him!! I think you just waste everyones time if your not honest.

One as advertised (I bought him

and one not.

The not was advertised as a hunter (I should have moved on at that point

) and an easy ride. Turned out to be joggy and spooky, and I got off him after 5 minutes

I told the seller on the phone that I was coming back to riding after a 10 year break, so why did he not say that the horse might be a bit much for me until I got there??

TBH I usually ask so many questions in the initial call that I have worked out pretty much what the horse is like before I go to see it! So haven't really had any wasted / totally unsuitable visits. Looking back though ONE horse I bought who was advertised as a "schoolmaster" certainly was not... he's the one I got wrong...!
