Are they selling though!!

Quick question slightly relevant to original post!! How much would people be willing to pay for a 9yr old eventer with 1BE point?? Very willing horse, nice attitude, NO BD or BSJA but could do these easily. Just as my friend is selling a horse like this and just wondered what price people would expect?

Things seem quite cheap at the mo looking at Horse Quest

I going to have to have a look now, not seen anything yet for me. If you come across any nice SJ types that would do some low level BE as well send them my way.

Has had all in all about 2 seasons and has been consistently placed intro PN and has completed two Novices, on with a few SJ pens and the next with a few XC pens, then went double clear and 9th SMiths Novice then 4 faults SJ and clear XC at Goring Nov.

I would say easily £12-15k
As thats only 2 runs Novice - and Smiths Lawn SJing caused loads of problems - with horses I know who are red hot with their sjing usually!

Even without any BSJA or BD?? And he has quite a few time pens at Goring XC.

He will be pleased that you think that though. Your right Smiths was very big! I went clear round the Sj as was so pleased!!

Yeah why not - hes proved the horse can jump round Novice SJing which is nearly newcomers height!

Time isnt always easy to get at Goring due to the hills - i always struggle to get the time there because i ususally end up getting run away with lol

At the end of the day - an eventer has to be good in all three phases to do well at the lower levels especially dressage! you dont get placed at PN or Intro with a 45-50 dressage any more!

Your right.

Just hope for him that he meets the time somewhere, as the horse is quite large (good doer!!) And he had quite a few time pens at Smiths XC, So hopefully next event time pens will be better

Ahh but I know a super horse who always gets well inside the time - he got 14 time at Smiths! due to the twisting!

I took it steady and winston got time there too - but we did the PN!

Yep Winston is a good doer! and on the large side! however, on a clear run say like at Gatcombe etc he would get the time because he just cruises! around Aston and Hambledon he just cruised and got miles inside the time - again at Purston too! so i just think sometimes its just courses for horses

Keeping a rythym is the best thing XC.

Its easier said then done though isnt it my horse is one of the strongest fastest horses ive ridden, but we seem to be getting lots of tp, everytime I let him go he gets quicker and quicker he doesnt stay in a rythym, and soon as he catches site of a fence thats it hes off bolting at it!! ALthough he does listen to me at combinations now. Just need to get together a bit more in between. Have had him 9 weeks ish now so not long, any tips?

my YO will be selling on their new horse beginning of next year as an eventer - got Opposition/Grosso lines, lovely looking chestnut - 4yo atm, jumps anything, works in a nice outline. They're going to run it at a couple of intros next year and then sell it - its going to be a fab horse.

Your horse sounds very similar to my friends ex polo pony who is now going Intermediate!

However, you've not been together long so I guess you will work on it over the winter.

I know the clinic that was held in June - we worked on this (rhythm) as ive always had horses that just get faster and faster and fire at a fence - winston doesnt do that lol he thankfully sets himself in a nice pace!

At the end of the day its very difficult to change a way a horse goes - especially when they enjoy it so much! The only thing i can suggest is keep at it and practise over the winter - and get a bit that doesnt pull him up too much if you know what i mean! sometimes better to ride with a slightly less strong bit than something that works to the point of you have a horse plunging and hopping on the spot - well thats what i found lol

I think 12-15k is too much, more like £6-7K.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really! why? the horse has proved its a consistant horse - top class Riding Club horses go for that!

Horses that havent done anything but with good breeding that state *potential* go for more than £6k

Its only 9 has years ahead!

Thats not to say I wouldnt rather pay that sort of money £6k for that sort of horse - I would love too, however, horses that have won and intro are going for nearly £18k WTF

I do think everythings gone bloody made recently! but Im just stating what the going rate is I guess.

Yes I agree, I ride him ina ported Myler with roundings and I took the roundings off once and he was horrid I held him too much and he hated it, with the roundings with have a bit more respect for each other and I have to trust him a bit more!

Just annoying as I could be placed if it was for the XC time pens, but I will try next time to let him go a bit more in between. the just give him little half halts. He just seems to know if he needs to listen to me or not!! as when we come up to a steeplechase style fence thats it he is gone!! No listening to me! Luckily he is very quick with his feet too. He has been Intermediate twice with cressy and didnt seem to pull her as much as me so I think its a case of building up a partnership as he is ten times better now then when I 1st got him!!

Think I would say around the £8k mark. Would not pay that myself as I am a skinflint when it comes to paying for horses. Prefer to pay less and put the work in myself.

[/ QUOTE ]

Couldnt agree more! However I paid more for Winston 3 years ago - he had won at PN and been placed at most of his events - had only done 8 events.
Was a good hunter, clean SJer but had not been affiliated at BSJA or BD but had won an unaffiliated Elementary!

However, he is a fun safe horse who can do a lot of jobs - thats worth more to me than something thats a complete nutter and that you are limited to what you can do wtih them.

I love having winston - dont get me wrong! however, I do miss not having a young horse to play with! and teach - miss not getting excited when you are teaching a young horse to canter on teh right leg etc.

Is it the going rate though? Agree see lots of ads for horses priced at £12-15k but are they actually selling for those sort of prices, personally I doubt it.

In my book £6k for "potential" is still a lot of money, personally I would not want to/could not justify spending more than £4k.

It should be a buyers market at the moment with winter coming on and riders off to uni etc.

Yep I ask the same question!

However, you put down a cheaper price and you get some ppl not enquiring due to thining *whats wrong with the horse?*

Im struggling too - to find something - doesnt make it easy when parents want a coloured!! grrr
however, Im working on this lol and would be happy to have a project over the winter tbh.

From reading your description the horse has had 4 novice runs, and gone double clear once, at 9 for that sort of money it should have done more. I don't obviously know how easy the horse is to ride etc which will all have a bearing on the price. It's also taken 2 years to get there.

The Fredericks adverts you mentioned at the start of the post has got horses with 4 BE points at £7,500.

For £12-15k you can get Proven Intermediate horses with BSJA Fox/1.30 winnings.

Reashi's horse which has a good Int record + BD + BSJA is £12k. Which one would you buy if you had 12K?

I'm not being horrible about your horse as I've never met it just from looking at it on paper what you have written wouldn't make me want to pay that much money for it
