hello
i recently rescued a foal that was in a bad shape!
he came to me with matters all over him (allthough most are gone now!) they is a few left over and i was thinking about clipping my foal out fully to get rid of them (hes abit warry of water but i have had clippers near him and he was fine)
i am hoping to show him in-hand and with him been a native breed would need his full coat back before hand.
i was wondering if anyone could possibly tell me how long it would take to grow back fully???

i really would not clip him out fully. foals lose body heat very quickly and can get chilled. my advice would be to cut the remaining mattes out. his coat will then all come back evenly, once his winter coat have been shed. hope this helps
 
thanks for the help but if i cut them hes going to be uneven! lol i just dont no what to do lol the yard im on they always clip foals out so they get used to it and hes had a stud for years n years now!
 
Even if he is uneven and moth eaten now he wont be when his coat comes through in the spring.

I cant imagine if he has just been rescued and is in bad shape that you will need to worry about his coat being uneven for showing!!

By the time he is in good condition he will have a lovely new coat

Cant imagine why anyone would clip a foal... especially at this time of year

lol his first show is for end of feb hopfully! lol!
and yeahh his dad had a mint summer coat so he should have a nice onee! (im hoping coz hes a lil stunner)

and i wanna clip him coz they r so uncomphtable n hurting him lol they r on his nee joint and shoulders and loads under his belly bt i cnt get to them coz hes not been handled much n u try n brush them n u can just c hes like mam get offa me they hurt!

n i feel nasty hurting him when i brush him bt i myt try cutting them n c what he looks like!
he would have been clipped earlyer if i had got him earlyer in the year lol!
 
if you cant get near him enough to deal with the mattes. i really dont see how you will be doing this foal any favours by opting to try and clip them off. i will probably be very unpopular for saying this...but isnt the welfare of your foal more important than rushing him along for the sake of a show. there are plenty of shows in the year. and you have the rest of his life to enjoy taking him places. if you try to clip these knots out and it is really sore. not only do you undo any trust that you have so far built up with this foal, but you risk giving him a phobia to clipping. i would really think long and hard about this.
 
i have decided against clipping him (before the last 2 comments!!!!!!!!) anyway now just tlked to my mate n she said wud b best to cut them off rather thnn clip him and i didnt want to clip him but didnt want to go near him with sissors incase i accidently cut him! and fort clipping would be the safer option!

and show diva i can get near them he lets u go near themm but he moved when u tootch or try to brush the notts!

and harper_gal hes due to be shown in feb because hes ready and no longer skinny ect just these last few bits that rnt fully done but i work on them every day and cant do anything with them! and hes not gettin shown like in classes just took to them to get used to the atmosphere!

and i wouldnt be undoing the trust as hes has been near clippers outside his door but and he would be fine with clipping as he trusts me with his life now and u can just see the bond i have made with him everyone on yard we are on says how far hes come ect! and he was scared of horses b4 n wud just try to do a runner and now he trusts me to keep him safe when huge horses includ stallions go near him!
 
If he's just going to the show to get used to going then - no problem - he can look a bit moth eaten and it won't matter at all. Agree with your decision not to clip and glad he's coming on well.
 
yeahh just to get him used to it and to his arranged g/f tht hes never met lmao! my mate n me are sharing a trailer till he drops n probs wont be able to share one with a girliee lol! yeahh the ppl i want to see him have been to see him so he got used to others n they seen him scruffy as lol just want him to look abit presentable lol!! but sure a few bald bits wont bother!

n yeahh he has bless him hes come on in leaps n bounds! wudnt even let me go near him when i first got him so took alot n lots of sittin on my butt infrunt of his box n tht lol! n cant wait to get him out n about lol!
