2 of my horses have recently started to lose the hair, one has only lost it from his face but the other is losing it in clumps from all over her body. Both only have bare skin underneath, any ideas what this could be? These two horses have been out with others all winter and none of the others have this.... I don't really want to call a vet for them to just say shampoo them a few times! Any advice would be much appreciated!!

My filly did the same, only her skin was scurfy and nasty underneath. She had a lice over winter and as she is sensitive skinned it caused her to have a reaction.

It would be worth doing them with insecticidal shampoo even if you cant see any little people!

your horses have friends!! that's why they are bald. good wipe over with coopers and a dose of louse powder, repeat again in a week, then you should be fine! if you get a sunny warm day then a good wash with incesticidal shampoo!

one of mine always loses his facial hair in clumps going bald underneath - it happens every year and only on his face, he has no signs of any parasites. once his coat comes through he looks normal again. just looks real mangy for a couple of weeks!
