Does anyone else's horse turn into a lunatic in the wind? Found mine and his 4 buddies galloping circles around their 10 acres yesterday- they're normally so chilled haha! Caught him just fine... But then spent 40 mins getting him to the gate, seriously!! Every 2 steps he bucked and spun... I never knew he had all that energy hidden away... In the dark he could've been a 3 yo racehorse...

Not the one I have now, but I used to have a TB who went loopy in the wind. She lived out fortunately, but I had to miss the odd lesson because she was too dangerous to bring in when it was really howling. North westerlies were the worst, probably because they are cold as well as squally.

Wind is the only weather that bothers mine, she will have a few crazy minutes when first let out flinging herself about and snorting at it

I have three minis, the biggest is 34 inches and this morning they turned into racing TB's in the wind. So funny seeing them racing around the field with the eldest so determined that her nose would be in front. She may be little but she has the mind of a TB that's for sure. Was even funnier when my 15.1hh cob joined in whilst my 21 year old TBXWelshie looked on as if to say "grow up you lot, it's just wind!!" Made me smile but I decided not to even try and catch them and definitely didn't ride.

Sasha, a 14 yr old chestnut polo mare is a total nut case in wind, and add a bit of rain into the mix and we don't even try to ride!!! We know she hates it..prefers being in the stable, so we pander to her and let her stay in... It does her no harm... She loves her warm stable... Six times now she has shown us she don't like wind and rain, by going side wards..backwards... Head down... Won't walk just tries to canter on the spot.. So I don't see the harm in not riding ( my teen son rides her) as I don't see the point in risking him coming off due to her mis behaving.

The problem with wind is that they can't always hear - as flight animal it heightens their senses and can make them more 'fearful', therefore act like prats!!!

My youngster was a nightmare in the wind last year and eventually went the hard hat/control halter route to handle, but thankfully a year on he is more chilled x
