Having read the ILPH latest newsletter about the poor horses going for slaughter in Europe, which left me feeling physically sick, can anyone tell me whether it is now illegal for horses to be travelled alive for slaughter from the UK?

Why does anything have to travel alive these days? I suppose it all comes down to money.

Reading this months Horsemart they have an article about the ILPH and it says:

The ILPH was founded in 1927 to prevent British horses being exported for slaughter. It succeeded in achieving this in 1937 and this situation remains in place today.

You'd probably have to double check but I think that means export of live horses from the uk is banned.

I can tell you that in the US they have to travel alive quite far as misguided animal rights activists and supposed "horse lovers" fought hard to have the slaughter stopped on US soil.

Now the animals they care so much for are being put through far worse to see the same fate in Mexico or Canada. I am no expert on British slaughter issues, but perhaps this could be what is going on where you live too? I imagine the Horse slaughter plants there must be few and far between and I imagine they are constantly harassed??????????
