So horsey was due to go to her new home next Friday ... travelling down to Devon for a new life of hacking, hunting and generaly fun stuff...

And when I went to check her today she was a massive hole in her back leg and has badly chipped the bone ........
WHY OH WHY ... she only had 6 more days to stay injury free .. that all I was asking

Vet came out, wounds been flushed and bone chips picked out (mare was so good .. didn't even have to be sedated, just stood like a lamb)
She's coming out again tomorrow to change the dressing and xray if necessary. Masses of anti-biotics given, plus bute, mares in on box rest.

Prognosis mixed .. if infection stays away she has a 95% chance of being fine .. no lasting damage ... just time to recover
But if it gets infected/bone is badly damaged we will have to have a re-think, she may never be sound and the cost could run into the thousands if she has to be taken to Potter's Bar and operated on.

ARGGHHHHHH I knew I should have stuck to pet bunnies

Oh dear, I'm so sorry

. Lots of 'feeling better' vibes to ward off evil bugs and make her leg like new. I'll bet the prospective purchasers will be absolutely gutted too. Keep us updated on how she does, eh?

Yup - phone called already made...

They like her so much that as long as there is no infection they want to take her anyway and she'll recuperate with them.
Just need to get through xrays, no infection, improvement in lameness, the next 2 weeks and the vets say so for travel ... so only a few hurdles!!!

Its the perfect home and it's taken me ages to find them ... so please god she's ok.

Ooh fingers crossed that she'll be alright. The new owners sound really good esp if they're still willing to take her.
