I have a very good doer 5 year old cob x tb. She is currently in a starvation paddock. I had to change grazing due to a problem in the field. She was put in the next door field with a little more grass. By the next moring her hinds had filled up, but swelling came down after exercise. Has happened before, is it too much protien/sugars in the grass?

Now back in the starvation paddock and having a haynet a day to keep up her fibre levels as the grass is very bare.

This also happened to my yearling in one of the paddocks, I moved him to another paddock and over night the swelling went down. I read up about this and seem's to be the Fructans in the grass are particularly high in spring and autumn because of the good growing weather. The amount of fructan present in the grass also varies during the day.
