horses & history

Evenin' all,

i'm finding for some reason I'm very interested in the role horses have played for society through all ages (especially during war time) - does anyone else have this interest?

Also can any one recommend a good book/text/website in this subject? I'm really interested in their management and how the views of topics such as fitness and nutrition were tackled...

I've just bought the book written by Xenophon for his original views on horsemanship....

Dunno why I find it interesting... maybe because horses have had such a history and have served such a purpose and I know barely anything about it....

Leo Cooper wrote a book about the role animals have played in war, I've done a Google search but can't find it, and I can't remember the name, covers everything from horses to pigeons though.
