My horses' posh name is "Pookshill Cracker".

His breeder then called him Fitz after the fat bloke in the Cracker TV Programme, cos he was fat, cleaver and nosey!

My Mare Brennah was out of a baby book of names and i cant remember the means but it did fit her in everyway.

My Gelding Jameson when i got him they just called him BFG (because he is...) i wanted a name that was big and strong but not fussy, my step father is a whisky drinker and as my horse is Irish it was quite fitting.

Ben - came with his name

Evy -came with her name

Alma - came with her name

Clover - came with her name

Belle - It suited her, and was the first name that popped into my head when I looked at her

Willow - was kept in a paddock next to some willow trees and we stood trying to think up a name, leaning against the willows.

Wonky - long story but basically when we bred him we weren't going to keep him, so I didn't want to name him in case I got attached. Instead of keep calling him "foal" we nicknamed him wonky because of his wonky blaze. I ended up keeping him, and we tried to think up a new name, but Wonky just stuck,

Emae - named after an island - dad is H-Tobago, and mum's name begins with E so looked for an Island beginning with E, and liked Emae best.

Ella - my partner named her Ella as it is his mum's favourite name (he also has a dog called Ellie) and they were there when she was actally born.

Twiglet - because he has the longest twig like legs ever!

My horse has a very dull name but my friend has a small stud and has some quite interesting ones!

Maggot - because of the way she behaved
Spike - because of facial markings
Hawk eye - father was called Tomahawk
Dreadlocks - went on loan to someone for the winter and came back in a right state with a tail full of sh1t.

ine is Pedito... this had evolved from Ped, as someone said I should call him Pedro - no chance - so I call him Peds, and that evolvoed into Potato or Pedito.. or both :) When I met my lovely hubby, he roared and informed me Pedito means well... little Fart ... and oh boy does it fit - most flatulant horse anyone has ever met!! His 'cute' name is piddipeds... but when he is a baddy... he gets called the 'Great Galute' or Lummox.. and answers to them all!!

Genie is Miss Congeniality, which her old owners named her. Before they had her she was called Scooter, which they figured was a boy's name (and I agree!). She has various nicknames, most commonly 'baby pony', 'baby one' or 'madam'.

Baby Pony and Baby One because she still acts very babyish in her grabbing things with her lips and just 'lipping them', plus she was 5 and very green when I got her last year.

Madam because she can be a stroppy little madam, and will ocassionally throw her toys out of the pram. If she gets fed up of waiting to go into the ring at a show she'll huff and stomp her foot, but is good as gold once she's in there.

A friend of mine had a horse who ended up with the nickname 'Dinbob', not sure how or why!

Mazzie was Mazzie or Maz because it was easier than calling 'Mascarita'. She also got called 'Donkey' as she had the HUGEST ears.

Inca came from a rescue called Marigold (they had named when she arrived) and I thought it sounded to much like a cow (although clearly she has her moments

!!) and I wanted a short name that couldn't get shortened - so obviously she gets called tinker or tinkerbelle.......what else do you call a piebald coblet??!!

My old pony who we lost last year aged 37 (riding him gently up to age 36!) was named ching nu by a previous owner. We have no idea how he got the name. Any ideas?

My boy's first name is the name of the stud / polo yard he came from (and is also the name of the polo team I think), and the second part of his name was given because it was raining torrentially when he was born apparently...Monsoon
grin.gif

His stable name is Monty, from Monsoon.

When I bought mine he was called Andy. I thought it was way to human so decided to change it. I went for Archie as it was different enough not be naff but similar enough for him to answer to it. My old Section D's prefix was Sheadon - apparently as his breeders were called Sheila and Donald - a bit cringeworthy I thought. It helped when I tried to trace them though!

Fany Du Champ De La Petite Ville (Showing name) is rather a long name to shout when she is heading for the feed room intent on wrecking havoc, so she is called Sausage, 'cos she is an Ardennes. Captain My Captain (Comp. name) is Cappy, not too imaginative!
