Hi all, so I currently have a 6 month old baby and my horse is on DIY livery. Mucking out etc shouldn’t be a problem as baby can sit in the pram at the door and be safe. However there is a short walk to the fields. Does anybody have any suggestions/recommendations on how to do this with a baby?

From those with experience can you safely lead a horse and have the baby at the same time? Pram/baby carrier etc?

I can’t leave child at home as hubby works away in the week. I can pay for turnout & bring in but would like an alternative if at all possible as this will mean I won’t see my horse in the week (also cost!). I will obviously do this though if I have no safe option.

I’ve already accepted that I won’t be able to ride during the week which sucks but is fine. It would be nice to bring her in/out though if possible but I can always go up to the field to see her.

Thanks in advance!

A lady on our yard uses one of those baby backpack carrier things to poo pick the field. manages to get it on herself. She hasn’t been bringing Horse down to yard as he’s pretty much turned away now so I can’t say I’ve seen her lead him.

it would seem safer than a pram however my anxiety brain tells me what if you have a worst case scenario and you end up getting decked for whatever reason and being on your back.

If you know your horse is an absolute saint, then I would do it personally. (I know all horses are unpredictable, but a saintly horse helps!!)

I’m really sorry but I don’t think there is any safe way to mix a baby and horse due to the unpredictable nature of horses and I really wouldn’t carry baby to bring horse in and out. You would never forgive yourself if something happened. New parents at yards I have been at would leave baby in buggy/ car seat with a friend in the barn but you need to be there at the same time as someone else.
