WHY HAVE MY HORSES STARTED TO REFUSE TO EAT THEIR HAYWHEN IT HAS BEEN BOUGHT FROM SOMEONE WHO FEEDS HIS WITH IT. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN THIS TIME OF YEAR.I ALWAYS MAKE SURE ITS THE BEST I CAN FIND AND CANT SEE WHY THEY WONT TOUCH IT
If they are outside for any length of time it's completely normal behaviour, the grass has started growing.
Ours abandoned their haylage totally for almost 6 days this week, only to return today to the bales.
Just cut the amount down and offer less and they should start eating it again. (i doubt the grass ill keep growing as the weather will change to colder soon and the growth will cease)
One of my horses is eating its hay but not all of her hard feed, the other is wasting his hay. It's the mild weather, the grass is growing so they are not as hungry when they come in. It's the only explanation for it as mine have been on the same hay and feed all year, now they are on reduced amounts.
I had major protests this morning as I swapped mine from Hayledge to hay in the mornings, as it was too wet to do much tractor work to bring more haylage in.
Nags are currently standing with sucked in cheeks looking quite peed off this morning!!
