Up until this year, the heaviest rug my HW gypsy cob had ever worn on a regular basis was about 100gm.

I once, in a moment of madness, bought him a 200gm turn out that he never wore as he was always toast in just a rain sheet or LW.

Usually he's naked all summer but this year he struggled especially when it was wet (which was pretty much all summer) and was actually shivering a little so I got him a Swish 70gm rug which seemed to sort him.

When the cold spell hit he went into his 170gm masta but he was never really that cosy in it and the fit was pretty poor so I went online and in another moment of madness bought him a 300g full neck rug - he has never been so happy since putting this on him - he's not boiling hot in it as I'd normally expect but just cosy enough to be comfortable and that's with his clip mostly grown back.

I've since bought a new 180g full neck rug (those Axiom rugs are amazing value!) in the hope that I can put him in this rather than the 300gm and save that until the really cold spell hits.

Has anyone else had similar issues where their normally hardy horses seem to be feeling the cold?

He's perfectly happy now and in fact has lived out 24/7 for part of this week as he's not been fussed about coming in which is unheard of in December!!!
