Horses stabbed at Las Vegas show

Gosh, I just fell down a FB rabbit hole.

The girl has been named and it seems (screenshot provided of messenger to her mother in January) that her mother had been informed that she has been stalking and bullying kids in the neighbourhood. Apparently opening fake social media accounts to mock or target kids. So yes, if the screenshot is correct, it seems she is a danger to people as well as animals.

Apparently, he mother is a doctor and her father a vet, so both well connected.

I would imagine the vet practice will be slightly less profitable this year, especially if she was training to be a vet tech there. I know I would worry that her father would allow contact with my animal if I had previously had my animals registered with him.

an update on what appears to have been a very lucky Sully.

Sully is getting checked by Dr. Rodriguez everyday this week to make sure the healing process is going well. Seeing the ultrasound on his jugular and how close the stab wound was is horrifying. This would have been fatal, however I think God was on his side that night. Every other puncture was severely close to his major joints which would have been career ending, one even being 1/2” from his cervical spine. He is extremely lucky, the healing process is going to take some time, probably more than 2 months until I can even ride him.
We will be doing a lot of hand walking and rehab the next couple of weeks to make sure everything keeps moving. In the meantime he gets to “TRY” and enjoy a break, he loves his job more than anything. I told him I would make it up to him when he is a little bit more healed up- that I will take him to Utah where he can spend the summer in a pasture.

Yes it was 🙄

The attacks were carried out by another competitor, a 17 year old female who has been named. I have already seen the message that you reposted and unsure of what point you think that you are making.

She was clearly unstable, at best, to do what she did but she was also a competitor who was competing at Vegas. Not "only" an internet stalker who made her way to the stables.
She wasn't jealous and it wasn't because she lost, she was a stalker!

Maybe this short news report might shed some light on her motive for this attack.

She was stalking two of the riders online for months. Stalking never has motive

just an update from todays court hearing which is basically she is held in custody and they are attempting to try and have her tried as an adult. Next hearing in a month.

LAS VEGAS HORSE STABBING CASE: JUDGE ORDERS TEEN HELD WITHOUT RELEASE
The 17-year-old accused of stabbing three horses during the NBHA Professional's Choice Vegas Super Show appeared before a judge today, and the court has ordered that she remain in custody without release.
According to sources, the judge determined the teen presents a public safety risk and should continue to be detained while the case moves forward.
☕️
What We Know So Far
-The suspect remains in juvenile custody.
-Prosecutors are seeking to have her tried as an adult, but that request has not yet been granted.
-A decision on whether the case will be transferred to adult court is expected next month.
-The teen is accused of stabbing three horses - Detail, Sully, and Rocket - during the event at South Point Arena. All three horses survived and are expected to physically recover, though owners have publicly described significant emotional trauma and recovery challenges.
-Authorities previously announced the suspect was booked on 12 counts involving animal maiming/torture allegations and 3 felony counts of malicious destruction of private property exceeding $5,000.
-Investigators believe a knife was used, and police located the suspect at a nearby hotel after the incident.
☕️
The Next Big Question
The next major hearing many in the horse industry will be watching is the adult-certification hearing.
Today's hearing was not about guilt or innocence.
Today's hearing was about detention.
The court's decision was to keep the suspect in custody and the judge cited public safety concerns. This signals that the case is being treated very seriously as it moves toward the next phase.
☕️
The question now:
Will this case be handled in juvenile court, or will it proceed in adult court? We will find out at the hearing on July 8th.

Surely she’ll just be US equivalent of ‘sectioned’, indeterminate duration? She’s very clearly ill, and even more clearly a danger to others ☹️😵‍💫☹️

Very doubtful she's considered to be anything other than a felon. There are many seriously mentally ill people in US prisons. They are much more about punishment in the States. Rehabilitation and treatment for mental illness is not really something they do with a criminal.

I'm speaking generally here, rather than that specific case.
