My friend has just informed that two horses were stolen from a place called Ringley Road, Greater Manchester last night. A red 4 wheel drive was seen in the area at about 11.30pm - She has no other info at the moment! God will I be glad when this nightmare is over - and all of you!!

No, no, sorry didnt mean to cause offence by my comment - it wasnt meant to sound as though I was sticking up for the gypsies! They are an absolute bloody nightmare! I just wasnt sure if they could be bothered to be zooming over the country. Believe me, they are my worst nightmare too. Once had a trailer stolen by them and they shut the gate behind them. Once again, sorry my comment was misread

Have you any more details? My horses are stabled on a yard off Ringley Road, and nobody at our yard (or other yards along that stretch of road) has heard anything about it!
I understand two were taken from Darcy Lever last night.

Yes, apparently so. Sorry I havent heard anymore. It didnt happen at my friends yard - it was just down the road from her. My friends are called Michelle and Hilary, but I dont know the name of the yard - sorry. She was trying to find out. Seems funny that word hasnt got out though? Lets hope the info she was given was wrong?! As soon as I hear anything I will let you know

Thanks for posting!
We are all very worried right now, wondering how much of the information out there is speculation and gossip, but also desperate not to take chances with our horses security.

There has been no information, even with the local police (including officers who stable their horses along that route!). It's astounding that Greater Manchester Police will not support the Horse Watch scheme (though the Bury force do), so it's difficult to get totally reliable information.

We have drastically upped the security on the yard today, and all horses are identifiable. The local police force are making regular checks along the route, at the request of local horse owners, until the situation can be resolved.

Any further information you can provide will be much appreciated.

I received another text last night from my friend who's also very worried as she has been told that quite a few horses disappeared on Fri night? Some from Westhoughton, the two we are aware of from Darcy Lever, and two from Radcliffe!? I agree with you, its worrying but also frustrating as to how much is actually true. She also mentioned that she had heard that quad bikes were involved in rounding some of these horses up, but they are very noisy and would definitely draw attention?! I'm sure we'l all be relieved when this is over - we might start sleeping again!

There have also been some horses stolen from Croft Top area, the police have said they could be taking pictures to do a steal to order scam. A red land cruiser has been sighted and also a white van reg N253 XAJ (NB: these are believed to be false plates - these plates belong to a cream ford minibus, which is not involved in stealing horses - read more about this number plate) the men have eastern european accents. We have our horses in Simister Village which isnt that far away from Ringley Road.

I was told 2 horses had been taken from Shoretop stables on Ringley Road on Friday night. I went down to Shoretop and spoke to 2 girls there they said no horses had gone. . . so could be some scaremongering going on now!!!! Still worried to death though, Michelle

The local police have had no reports of any horses stolen from Ringley road, just to calm folks down a little!

That doesn't mean we should stop being vigilant of course!
