I have just received a text from a close friend who has informed me that 9 cobs were stolen last night from Cannock and 9 from Lichfield - they seem to be targetting coloureds, irish & mares with foals
frown.gif
- no other details at the mo. I will try and find out more info and post asap

Anyone else heard anything of this sorts?

I've had two text this morning. Silver transit van was disturbed last night in Lowdham Nottingham on a livery yard but the owners got the no. and police have confirmed it is a false no plate. I am posting in New lounge as well p.m. for reg no. Also at 1p.m. this morning my daughters future MIL had someone prowling their yard which is about 2 miles from Lowdham. (OMG they've borrowed by trailer to get their youngster used to loading and traveling). Yesterday she told me she saw a Silver transit on Lowdham Lane and the driver had one of those florescent work things on and pretended to be doing something but she said he wasn't. Last week they caught two lads on their premises when asked what they were doing they said sorry got wrong place left and a blue Astra which had been hanging around the previous week pulled up and the lads got in, so we are assuming it was casing the area beforehand. But they keep getting phone calls number withheld and when they anwser phone is slammed down. Could be checking if they are out?

The text I received this morning, said that 9 cobs were stolen from Cannock, and 5 from Lichfield.

Also, there have been sightings of men fitting the descriptions already given, at Ingestre, which I believe is near Stafford.

Can anyone enlighten me as to if this is a hoax or not?
There seem to be an awful lot of texts going around about horses being stolen, but I havent yet heard any reports taken from the actual owners of these missing horses...

Thanks BER and Pidge.

I just cannot understand why the Horsewatch sites are not listing all these stolen horses, and why there is nothing in the press, when this seems to be organised crime, rather than just stealing the odd horse here and there.

Madness.

Yes, all legit, police informed re the Cannock horses and also there have been confirmed sightings of these individuals, I do however think that some of it is hyped up.
I can confirm that there have been lots of thefts in past week or so and that there will be a heavy police and farmkey pressence at a certain fair this weekend.

I know sounds daft and you and I would report them, but some horse owners would not think to go through Horsewatch etc - I know we would, but.....

Very true LB. I suppose many people don't even realise there are loads of online horsey communities that might be able to assist them.

What I would really like to know is why there have been so many confirmed sightings of these men, and their 4x4s/vans, but no sightings of any horse transport.

They must be using pretty big lorries to take the amount of horses they're stealing

According to Horsewatch thieves dont use 'horse' transport per se but lorries that look like 'normal' delivery lorries, sometimes refrigerated types ones and the ramps are often made to look like the roll up/shutter type door. There are so many of these on our roads no-one really takes much notice of them ... and certainly not as much as a horsebox.

I live in Cannock and have just been informed that there were no horses stolen last night in Cannock, if there were they have not been reported to the police. This information has come 2nd hand but a reliable source who spoke to Cannock police station themselves. The police, however, are interested in where these text messages are originating from.

i phoned staffordshire police last night and even though there have been legit sightings of people taking photos in the area there have been no horses stolen in cannock or lichfield and the police are 100% positive they would have been informed

Please read the below which demonstrates that all the messages, texts and posting on horses having been stolen are a load of rubbish.

There has been further information received about people photographing horses, possibly with the intention of their theft to order.
The vehicles are a White Van registration number N253 XAJ and a Red Land cruiser registration number B16 RBB
One of the registration numbers involved may not match the vehicle so it is important that if you do report an event your information must be as accurate as it can be. Alternatively the number plate may be a clone so a good description of the vehicle is vital. So far no crimes have been linked to these reports but we must be on our guard. Some reports mention two males, others a male and female.

A number of horse theft reports have sprung up surrounding these events. We are aware that the apparent theft of large numbers of horses at one time are actually hoaxes. There have been individual thefts and the details of these are posted on the stolen horse register. www.stolenhorseregister.com
Where a theft has occurred owners are advised to contact Horsewatch and the SHR to register their details, a crime number is an essential part of a posting and must be supplied.

We will continue to keep owners updated via the Horsewatch Bulletin and if you have information to report please contact your local non emergency Police number or Horsewatch via our website www.ukhorsewatch.org.uk

Please pass this message on to all of your friends.

Regards
Garry Porter
