So I admit I know nothing about horses teeth! i have an appointment booked with the equine dentist tomorrow eve but would like to know what to expect first and not appear a numpty!

i have noticed that when in the stable eating hay my daughters pony will drop chewed up bits of hay,
Looking in this mouth- one side the bottom canine tooth looks fine, but the other side the canine looks like a square and very plaque covered- like its capped in plaque(?)

Is this something the dentist will sort out in a 'normal' visit, would you expect it to be a problem , extra expense?

??

The dentist will ask you about his eating/ridden behavior. The dentist will pop the gag on and have a good look, will then probably go in with the rasp and correct any abnormalities. The problems are usually in the back cheek teeth, sharp points on the sides of the cheek teeth, wave mouth, hooks that prevent horses from chewing properly etc. Canines are usually no problem, the dentist may just crack the plaque off...job done :)
