So i went on holiday for two weeks, and left my two horses out together in the field 24/7. They have always been close, but when I got back them were like the bloomin Ateam. They were over confident, naughty, cheeky, and unmanageable to ride!

They get hysterical if i take one for a hack and leave the other, so i decided it was time for them to take a break. they are in seperate fields now, and so far (!) beens loads better!

Any one else had any experiences like this? I feel so mean for splitting them up, but so far it is working...

What kind of time frame should i keep them apart for? They are in neighbouring fields so can still touch and sniff each other. one of them is with another horse, and one is on his own.

Mine can be the same, but I would never split them up as they are in lurve :). When I lay them off in the Winter I always get hissy fits from them when I start them up again and take one out, but they soon get over it when I persevere by taking one out every day and ignoring the hysterics.

I guess its something you most definitely have to work through again with them, so that they get used to being apart. I fostered a little Welsh A for a year. He was quite clingy at the beginning anyway but after a year of just living with my mare he became a nightmare and would go through fences, over stable doors, people just to be near her even if he was just in the next field. I could only ride / hack her out once or twice a week so he found it very stressful and couldnt cope at all with the seperation so he was returned to his rescue centre. My mare on the other hand couldnt have cared less whether he was there at all.....
