Sorry not the most pleasant of topics for a Monday afternoon.

Just out of interest, do your horses like to smell their own fresh droppings when out on a hack (obviously they do at times when in the field or stable) and I can expect them wanting to smell enough horses fresh droppings but not there own!

It's not the first time he's done it either, yesterday while out hacking with my friends mare, he dropped a no.2 and suddenly started grunting and getting all excited, then reversed up (wondering what he was doing) only to shuff his head down and get a lung full of his own steaming *****! once I realised what he was doing I then thought nothing off it, just Mackenzie being Mackenzie

Any more poo sniffers out there? :D

My old cob us to do this a lot not sure why, just us to give him a little sneeze and he would leave it and walk of, I was old my a lady on the yard at the time it could be because he was gelding late (don't no when he was gelding but it was before 3 years old, how ever he never showed any "stallion behaviour" around mares if any thing he often ran from them like aaa it's a girl!! ( I often through he was gay, he did wear pink stuff so maybe that's a little of my doing) but he was wormed regular so I didn't see the harm in it as he wouldn't drag me to it, it was just if we were strolling

My sisters pony who is quite riggy (but not a rig - also 25yo!) was put in the stable for a couple of nights - first day I put him in he did a poo, turned round and sniffed it, then started eating it!

He has not (afaik - obviously I don't follow him round the field all day!) in the 17 years we've had him ever done that. I told him he was a dirty little pony and scooped the rest up before he could gobble it  :D

Probably explains it then with regards to the riggyness, although he's never tried to eat it thankfully, I'd draw the line at that! lol :D

sorry, had to post :) shes not a frequent poo sniffer but i think she just wondered how the poo had managed to get up there (she'd obviously backed herself right up to the bale)

my mare is a poo sniffer! Hence my name, PooJay.

She doesn't really sniff her own, just everyone elses. Won't step in poo though, that (according to Jay) is definitely NOT ladylike.
