Do they have to consideration for these animals?!?!?! WHY do they think these horses do become skittish and upset?? Because they're hungry??!?!?
Drives me up the wall. You shouldn't have to sedate 300 horses just because of a selfish rock concert!
It is only if they panic during the concert, not routinely done at the start. Is it any different from sedating a horse or dog on firework night? I think it is responsible that they are considering potential problems.
Well, I am going to be controversial - I actually think it is a sensible thing to do.
If a concert was arranged that near to your stables but it wasn't your land, so you had no say, would you let the horses go mad in the stables or sedate them?
I would wait to see how they reacted (although you can usually guess which horses will do what if you know them!) and if necessary I too would sedate horses!!
My preference though would be not to have a concert so near to my horses but you can't control everything.
I doubt that all 300 will be stabled or need sedating, if they're racehorses they will be use to large crowds and noise, it won't make any odds to them 1000 or 150,000. The band will have warm up sessions so the yard will already know which horses are going to react on the night so would have the opportunity to move them or sedate before the actual concerts starts.
Not ideal to have a large concert on your doorstep but better to be prepard.
Sorry Gala, didnt mean to pinch your post. I read the article on another site and posted it on the Lounge
I agree with you, it is terrible. Theres a huge difference between loudspeakers and the crowd roaring them home on the track and a full mega Stones concert IMO. Hope its moved somewhere else. M.
Hi Mairi, not a problem, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has picked up on the story and feels strongly about it. And I completely agree with you, they understand crowds and roaring for a couple of minutes at a time, but not a full on three hour rock concert at maximum decibels.
