Just been told that my stupid mare went a*** over tit trying to jump a 4 foot gate from a virtual stand still!!!!:(

Apparently she had been following my mum round the field like a dog as she was pooh picking, looking a little down and when my mum had shut the electric gate, got the barrow out and had nearly shut the metal gate she decided to crash through the electric and jump (so went from standing to jumping in just over a metre-ish!). She just caught her leg on the gate and tumbled down on to the wheelbarrow! Which is now unusable, luckily she's not too looking bad considering :( she's got a cut on one of her back legs but i gather it's not too deep/bleeding much and she's not lame atm.

My mum was quite shaken up but she got brought in and given a feed and put back into her old field with polo. Not really 100% sure why she felt the need to do this, can only assume it's because she's in a large herd for the 1st time and polo is not giving her much attention any more. Or that we are leaving them out for as long as we can this winter and she wanted in . I've stopped riding her to as i wanted to give her a break over winter but i doubt it's this as she got a break last winter. Horses!!! I just hope she hasn't hurt her back or something :(

Sorry for the random rant :o but don't you just hate it when they do random stupid things like this!

My idx about a month ago began getting really arsey as he wanted in! He actually barged his way through some post and rail into my other paddock next to the stables! Ended up bringing them in that night! Hope your mares ok!

Ouch! Hope your boy was ok. I hope so too, i'll know more tomorrow. I wish i could go home and see her myself but it's a bit of a drive (that i don't like doing on scooter), i have 3 assignments to do for friday and i've been home loads this week already :(

Only stupid people have horses!!!!!!
My homebred 4year old has torn extensor tendon in hock ( in the field), as a 2year old she had lymphangitis in ALL 4 legs!!, and as a foal had pneumonia then secondary infection!!
And my never sick or sorry cob has just had nail go thro frog and come out thru his heel(should be ok, fingers crossed!)
So Im moving over to basket weaving!

Well last Sunday my horse decided to hang himself in his stable! Kicked out got the angle of his hoof just right and his foot went straight through the metal bars on the partition of his stable! Got the vet out he sedated him and gave him a general anaesthetic so that we could try and free him. Vet said no I don't think its going to be a good outcome but wait until he gets up. We managed to free him, he then got cast twice! Finally got up and was walking about in the search for hay! He got a proper shiner though must have got caught and fell, landed on his face! face swollen up like a balloon, his right eye was all bloody and nasty and the vet advised he may have a fracture.

Well he trotted up sound on the Monday and had x-rays done on Wednesday and you wouldn't think he had done anything wrong! Swelling is going down so fast and his leg hardly swelled at all! He's on bute and box rest for 7 days but providing he trots up sound once the bute is out of his system he will be going out! :) Vet said it really was a miracle he couldn't believe his eyes when he trotted up sound on Monday! I think one or two of his 9 lives have been used up!

Sometimes wonder why we bother when they do such silly things like that! So so glad he's ok though I don't know what I would do with out him.

Got to agree with you there!! And you have some real bad luck with your homebred  hope he comes good in the end for you. Fingers crossed your cob gets better too!

Pocket_Rocket that sounds like a nightmare! Glad to hear he's on the mend for you now :)

This is probably the worst thing that one of my horses has stupidly done to themselves, and so far it seems i have been very lucky. Ironically it was also her who did the last stupid thing - somehow polo never does anything like this.
