prices have indeed dropped - i have advertised my horse for under what he is worth - but im not taking offers as im in no rush to sell him.
if he goes great but its not the be all and end all!
I've just sold my mare and was very lucky to get the price I wanted. I was having a nosey at Horsemart last night and am amazed at how much prices have come down.
Then again, are they now reasonably priced? Prices were getting ridiculous and expectations from sellers were going the same way as house prices a year or so ago.
I have been lucky then, had a buyer who pulled out last minute then readvertised and sold quickly even after I priced the horse higher. Really good loking easy person, super hack, hunted but not competition horse. Got a decent price for him.
The buyers are there, I have had a lot of calls, it's just a case of being realistic about your horse and targetting the right market.
i am selling two for a friend too upset to sell herslf one 11h lr fr lots of pot quality pony and a 17hh irish middle weight again bags of pot and wasted with her ,despite the size differance there is no price differance so you dont look to get much for your money for one but an awful lot for the other if you know what i mean only gone on today so hope we get a good response both genuine and priced to sell so fingers crossed . i thionk they are selling though if priced right cobs certainley are anyway been looking for one for a friend for weeks and every one we pick to see has been sold already .
friend is selling a 16hh TB for (in my opinion) quite a large amount. Don't think she'll get it judging from the comments, plus unfortunatley, TB's seem to grow on trees!!!
I've had Norman up for sale at £1500, I thought that was reasonable but had a few phone calls but nothing really serious....since dropped him to £1400 yesterday, money is really tight at the moment and I'll have to give him away soon!
I don't think prices have dropped really I just think maybe people are finally realising what horses are actually worth and what people are going to pay. There are a lot of horses about and I think people have been getting greedier and greedier over the past few years and 'trends' for certain horses (ie coloureds etc) have shot prices up to stupid levels really.
People need to be realistic. A horse is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it at the end of the day!
I reckon I got about £1.5k more for my horse as she is a coloured than if she were a solid colour.
I'm willing to bet anyone that when I'm ready to buy again in 2 or 3 years time (when I've not got 2 lots of childcare to fork out for), prices will be silly again.
I've seen loads of lovely horses the past couple of days, very realistically priced.

Just bought one for a reasonable price but that was through a friend - similar ones advertised in H&H

I meant to say ...similar ones for 2K + more than I actually paid so I think people are advertising horses for more but they are not necessarily selling for these prices
