Anyone else had any experience with this rug?

I bought it for my yearling a couple of months ago and Wednesday was the first day he wore it when it’s actually rained.

On the bag it says it’s waterproof – he was damp all over and soaked at the stitching of buckles and straps etc.

Worse thing though is at first I thought he had lots of cuts all over his legs as they were stained with red marks (panic set in!) but closer inspection it seems the colour from the rim of the rug has run!

Not best pleased with it, but not sure where I stand considering I bought it a couple of months ago..

I've had mine since last year and never had a problem with it. My horse has been out in it recently in some downpours and the first thing I do is put my hand under to see if he's dry. He's always been as dry as a bone.
Is he definitely damp through the rain or has he not sweated up?
If this is not the case it's probably faulted. I've had them in the past for previous horses and they've always been fine. A couple of months isn't a long time to have a rug, I would take it back or contact Horseware directly.

agree with this, I had the 600D one and it was useless, even in drizzle it leaked!
Agree too. I am a big fan of Amigo rugs and never had one that caused a problem. I would be interested if anyone has though as I am planning to order some more this weekend.

Thanks for the replies all, I never knew it had to be over 1200D for fully waterproof - wish they didn't put it on the labelling if it wasn't up to the job

I'll try and make this one last as long as possible, he is growing out of it quite fast but probably not ready yet for the next size up for a couple of months.

Bring back new zealand rugs - gawd I'm getting old

My 600d is waterproof, I have had it near on two years and it has been used day and night throughout all the rain and snow, it's never been re-proofed but it still keeps the wet out, it is a m/w though so perhaps that makes a difference.

I got a red one 2 years ago and it was fab, fully waterproof etc. So last year when horse got his leg caught when rolling and ripped it to bits I got another one straight away. This one was NOT as good as the first, the stitching seems dodgy because I turned up on say and the tailflap was nowhere to be seen! No rips, it had just come clean off and blown away! (luckily I kept the ripped one for 'parts' and took the tailflap off that!!) It has been torn countless times and repaired, it really is on it's last legs BUT it IS waterproof... I emailed Horseware and they said I had to send the rug to them in ireland at my own cost in order for them to see if it was faulty... NOT very good!!!! So I didn;t bother...

So due to a less-than-half-price offer I now have another AMigo 600 lite waiting for when rug 2 finally gives up the ghost... HOWEVER I am worried it may not be any good, it will be the last one I get in that case... and I will be back to buying Weatherbeeta...

Hope it doesn't run as horse is grey and the new rug is beetroot purple!!!!!!

Noblesteed you could end up with a Ribena berry for a horse if it does run!! Hope for your sake it doesn't, how ever it happene to a girl I knew, her dad turned her horse out in his red stable rug, he looked like he been in a scene from a horror movie when she pulled the wet, heavy , muddy rug back, had to giggle but it toke a long time for it to go!!

My 600d is reasonably waterproof at 3 years old - it doesn't cope with downpour, or persistant rain. I agree about the narrowness of the neck/chest. I either use a chest extender with mine on my native type pony, or get a size bigger for her.

Had exactly the same problem to begin with actually makes sense if it isnt supposed to be 'fully' waterproof... probably like some else said should state it on the label!!

Never found colour run a problem, I have the green one..

I have got one tip though I bought some rug re-proofer, as its only a light weight stuck in it the washing machine and is now fully water proof.. :D

I have the red 600d amigo for the summer months and I use the blue 1200d amigo for the winter as I can attach the neck on it. Had them a couple of years and never had a problem with leaks.

I own several and never had a problem with the 600 or 1200. Sometimes if its warm they can sweat more than the rug can breath. I even put them on wet horses to dry out if they get caught out in changeable weather,

Had mine 2 years and never had a problem with it, been used in all conditions too!

Also, I only own 600D rugs and never had a problem with leaking, again, whatever the weather!

The are useless, used it once, horse got soaked, should throw it away. I think they are really naughty selling this as an outdoor rug, because it isn't.

I would say that the 600d are showerproof and that the 1200d are properly waterproof. I've never had a problem with the colour running but I've not had a red one.

I have 600d amigo turnouts, red one and black medium weight. She lives out 24/7 in torrential rain and they've never leaked, she's always bone dry.

My Shetland has two of the red 600Ds, they keep him dry???
Although they arent worn 24/7 as he's stabled at night ... He's an old man.
Will look at the 1200D though, although my pony has enough rugs to fill a wardrobe

I have some red 600D Amigos and all of them have been completely waterproof. I've had them a few years now and they've never leaked or colour run and I've never had to reproof them. I wonder if there are good batches and bad batches?

I have loads of 600d lites, red/pumice, grey/excalibur, brown/red, grey/turquoise & none of them leak, nor do the colours run. I use some for turnout and some on top of stable rugs as they keep the stable rugs clean and are easy to wash. I've found them to be an excellent fit on all my horses. Virtually all my rugs are Horseware of one type or another and I still have some of the original green/red turnouts that must be 20 years old and they're still going strong!

We just got one of these for our pony so I hope it doesn't leak! I guess we will find out! It's a great fit for him though because he has a really narrow chest and it seems to me that Amigos suit narrow chests better (in my opinion at least).

Haven't used the rug yet but will report back when possible! On the plus side, it's a beautiful shade of teal! :D

Each of our horses have one and they're all really good! Have them in pretty much every colour haha, 600d, no leaks and they've been strong! They're my favourite type of rug as they do seem to last forever in our horses cases. I've noticed that the older one (a few years old now) is more showerproof than waterproof now but it's still effective. Never had a colour run either (and have 2 greys).
Maybe you've just been unfortunate enough to get a dodgy one, could you contact Horseware and see what they say?

I bought in end of November a new Amigo Bravo 12 LITE (brown)
2 or three week later i noticed after a rain shower that my horse was wet under it's rug.
Dealer exchanged the rug to a new rug and after 2 weeks it leaks again.
Now I have the third rug and I do not kow what I should do if it leaks again.

Do anybody else have a similar problem?

My friend's horse, same stable, same box, same paddock has a 2 years old rhino rug and it's waterproof all the time.
I use my brown Amigo Bravo 12 LITE with a 300 g liner and a hood. My horse is clipped fully and it seams it does not sweating because when it's not raining the horse is dry.

What sould I do?
