Hello

I bought a fly mask for C yesterday - she is a full tb, only 15.2hh and quite fine. I got her a cob size Horseware one because I thought that would be ok seeing as all her headcollars are cob, but although it fit around her nose it was massive around her ears! So does it really mean I have to go back and get a pony size?

Has anyone else found this brand to come up big??

I don't want it so small it rubs :( But if it's massive that doesn't really help either lol

I have loads of the damn things (Horseware fly masks) which came free with Sweet Itch hoodies, etc, and won't use them.
If you try wearing them (in the privacy of your own home, preferably :p) you can't see a thing through them...so I don't think they are safe.
S :D

Shell out and get an Equilibrium. Yes they are more expensive but they are the only ones that stay on, don't rub and don't fall apart!

Inclined to agree with that.
Also they seem to touch the skin around the eyes at times which can cause the skin to become sore.
I have found one at Robinsons though that not only fits well, its made of a very fine mesh (almost like silk), does the job, providing there is nothing for the mesh to become snagged on and rip.

I'm not keen on the horseware ones, but the one I got free with the sweetitch hoody is the only fly mask I've tried that my mare will tollerate and keep on, who am I to argue! The ears droop on her and it is a bit of a funny shape, but it does the job!

I don't want to scare anyone, but I agree with above and my horse has the scars to prove she's right unfortunately.

The very first day my horse went out with one on, back in April this happened.

I was leading him out, and had the headcollar on over the top of the flymask, but without the throat lash part of the headcollar done up, because the fly mask was making it a bit bulky.

I lead him through the first gate on the track towards his field. As I was doing the gate up he itched his face on his knee and pulled the headcollar over his head. He quickly realised he was free and and started trotting up towards his field, and started to pick up pace, before I knew what was going on, he'd galloped straight through the gate. I wont let him wear one any more. Vet agreed that the fly mask, coupled with low sunlight meant he didn't see the gate. My horse was battered and bruised, but he is fine now.

my mare has the cashel crusader full face fly mask and it is great. It has never rubbed and she can still see through it. Well she must be able to as she jumped out of the field last week to escape the flies. Don't know about the horseware one though.
