I've seen a good offer on an XL fly rug. Horse is normally 6'9 in Horseware and they sit nicely. Should I buy a 6'9 XL, go down a size or avoid?
Many thanks in advance!

The XL fly rugs are quite roomy for a big blocky type of horse with a decent chest and neck. I liked the one I had for my big chunky 17.3 but it would not have been a cut to suit my smaller less chunky mare. I think it would have hung on her to be honest.

I tried my mare, with a huge Spanish neck, in their XL rug and it was just as useless on her as their normal one. I couldn’t see a difference.

I did use an XL rainsheet on my not very XL Welshie as a spare one to keep in the lorry as it was on sale very cheap in his size. It was ok although very deep on him (think maxi dress rather than mini skirt!) & I did have to tie knots in the belly straps to make them smaller 😂 If horse is finely built I’d be tempted to try next size down. Said rug with a chest expander in to size it up then worked fab for the Highland until it went missing either during a yard move or when he was away being backed. It cost me considerably more to replace it than I’d paid for the original!

She's a sort of normal build warmblood, the 6'9 Vamoose fly rug is quite drapey on her but I suppose I just thought they were supposed to be like that as fly rugs.
