Just wondered if anyone can help me with some advice as what is best to do about my horses cold sores?

She has had 2 little sores on her mouth for a week yellow round the edge with a bit of red in the centre. I am led to beleive by others up the yard that they are cold sores and that other horses had them this time last year.

I just wanted to know if I need to take action against them, others have just said to leave them and they will clear up on there own but upon researching equine herpes all the stuff that comes up is pretty scary...

I am probably just an uber paranoid pony owner but has anyone got any advice? Do I need to do anything or watch out for anything else?

just a thought.......has your horse been near hogweed?the sap of this plant is really nasty.

(it looks a bit like cow parsley but with big fleshy leaves)

It does sound very much like blisters due to something like buttercups (most common) as others have said - particularly as it has happened to others at this time of year. So, before you panic I would take stock of what is in the pasture. If it is buttercups or the like then they should be disappearing soon so you won't have the problem - obviously it would be better if there were no buttercups in the field, but they are so hard to get rid of and if you are on a livery yard then you don't tend to have much say anyway!

If it is that then I would put some Sudocreme on them to help them heal and soothe them a bit.

My horse had same about 2 months ago and i thought nothing of it and it cleared up within a few weeks but the horse i travel with to shows then got one in its mouth so made us think is was somethign that could spread then yesterday my sisters horse who is at same yard but not in direct contact has one appeared in its month so I called my vet today and he said it could be a bacterial thing that just clears up on its own or it could be EHV, he said they can take swap to confrim it. He said there no point worring about it as it will go away in time and can flare up under times of stress and that about 80% of horses carry the virus, yes you can get difo strains etc which can cause complications in pregnant mares etc, but basically he said use comment sense when there is a sore there ie wash hands etc and not to worry about it - he said my horse might not even get one again - its just like in humans. And they are quite comment and spread between horses easily.
