Any advise for a neddy with rubbish feet?

TB keeps pulling his shoes off, typical flat TB feet, poor quality. He wears o/r boots all the time and regulary shod by good farrier.

Any ideas on boots, supplements ect? Anything that helps keep shoes on?

Thought appreciated

all horses are different its worth try different remedies to change the situation and if the horse is always pulling shoes off its got to be down to weak hooves cause the way its shod is not going to make the shoes come off all the time ? if its once or twice i would of said yes

if feeding biotin make sure you dont overdo the dose- feed at recommmended levels, can have too much of a good thing.

you could always consider taking the shoes off - hoof boots etc? sounds mad but some manage a lot better without. I have one of each so not biased either way....

I used to use a version of Farriers Formula with my old TB mare and she had a hoof dressing on every time the farrier had just done her shoes.

She also had back shoes (the ones with 2 clips) on her front feet as well as her back and they seemed to help her!

Hoof dressing everyday in the summer too when it is dry!

My TB mare was terrible, used to pull shoes all the time (and it wasn't down to poor farriery at all). She had O/R boots for that, and she had to wear brushing boots coz she made her legs sore pacing the fence!

In the end I figured she hadn't settles (after 8 months of the same thing), she made herself lame a number of times and I couldn't keep her in because she'd boxwalk, crib bite and weave! She was on loan so she went back in the end.

It wasn't her breeding, she had been raced at the age of 2 and she had been loaned out so many times just to go back to the loan place! And she'd never properly been seperated from her mother!

Sorry, personal rant I got into there *slaps own wrists*

I used to feed Farriers Formula and it made no end of difference to my chaps rubbish feet! I now use Formula 4 feet as its a bit cheaper and I've heard good things....hope I was right to switch!
Also, I paint stockholm tar (mixed with a bit of veg oil to loosen it a bit) on his feet a couple of times a week. Its extremely messy but I really think its helped. Particularly use it after he's been shod, cover the nail holes with the goo! Its antibacterial and some of the problems with feet breaking up is due to bacteria. May be worth a go?!

Different problems with mine (vertical cracks), but the ONLY thing that seems to have worked long term is Farriers Formula (bad news at it aint cheap) but I would say give it a year to really see the difference. Keratex is also quite good for hardening them if they go crumbly at the bottom. I also went unshod for a few months with mine to give them a chance for the nail holes to grow out and really strengthen up and used Boa boots, (just on the front as his back feet have never been bad).
