Hiya,

Instead of doing the mountains of uni work I've let pile up I'm looking at horse riding holidays to treat myself after I finally finish my degree in a month and I'd like some recommendations!

Ideally I'm looking for something that includes stable management and lots of hacking, my Mum and I have just got back into riding regularly so we're looking for something fun rather than specific training. I've seen so many fun sounding holidays but they're all for children!

Any one know of any/been on any riding holidays?
 
I can highly recommend Cotswolds Riding at Jill Carenza Equestrian.

Amazing hacking (long canters) and very friendly and fun staff. Stay with Jill for B & B and you will enjoy a delicious breakfast.

I'm not sure whether you would be able to do the stable management side because they were very strict about not entering the stables (quite right IMO). The horses are tacked up and walked out to the mounting block.

I hope to be returning later in the year.
 
Are you looking for UK or abroad?

My sister went to trans Wales a couple of years ago and said it was brilliant.

I've been to Croatia and South Africa riding and both are incredible. I always go wth Unicorn Trails but there are a number of companies, in the saddle is another, that specialise in riding holidays. Maybe have a look at those.

I'm not sure about stable management though, usually if you're using their horses they come to you racked up and ready to go.
 
If you are looking for UK holiday, I've heard a lot of good things about Wheal Buller (https://www.cornishridingholidays.co.uk/).

You could also have a look on the BHS website (http://www.bhs.org.uk/enjoy-riding/find-a-place-to-ride). Most of the places there would be able to acomondate you with stable management sessions as long as you mention that thats what you want when booking.

If you fancy abroad, get in touch with one of the travel agents (Far and Ride are my favourite) and explain what you want to do. They'd be able to match you with your budget, experience and expectations.

When you book through travel agent (who have ATOL protection) you get insured against place going bust etc. so unless you know the place well, I wouldn't book direct.

AT A CANTER - I love the Cotswolds so will definitely give that suggestion a look! Long canters sound ideal.

Mad_Cow347 - as much as I would love to go abroad my student loan doesn't quite stretch that far, but something I definitely want to do once I've started working.

Finishline - Wheal Buller is one I had come across and liked the look of, glad to hear you've heard good things.

I live locally to WB - know it well - also know people who work there. It would not be my first recommendation.


I am not sure if they provide horses or if they just do a bring your own facility - although I do know they have horses there so perhaps you can ride one of theirs - but lowertown farm dartmoor is one that I want to go to with my boy... https://www.facebook.com/LowertownFarm/
 
just to clarify ^^ I am friends with people who work there and their opinion is not high - did not mean it is the people who work there who make it a bad place :)
 
Free Rein in Wales - fit cobs, interesting riding across the mountains and moors of Wales, starts from near Hay on Wye.

In the Saddle, recommended holiday provider, Equestrian Escapes for home and abroad, again very helpful. Then there is Unicorn Trails, Far and Ride, and probably numerous others. It is worth speaking to the company as they can find out what you want and they have experience of the places so know if it is your kind of thing. The last one I did was to Italy and I didn't want to do 6 days riding, so I did cooking and riding.

The cheapest would be Eastern European like Hungry, Romania and Spain and Portugal are quite reasonable. France and Italy are more expensive. Then there are the African safari holidays (not so much jet lag as USA) and going to America and even more exotic, South Africa. There is masses of choice.
