Horsey model?

This is a bit random, but I was wondering how people are chosen for modelling clothes in horse catalogues.
Are there agencies that specialise in this?
I was just looking through a catalogue and wondered...
 
I would have thought that they go to agencies for this sort of thing? As in its not horse specific.

Meanwhile (and not to hijack your post) I want to know how my horsey can be a model?!

i doubt the models in horse catalogue's have any idea about horses! just models that are from catalogue's etc. unless there the ones that ride, not sure about those ones!

Apparently it's really hard to get your horse to be a model, I remember reading in some magazine that it's literally impossible-I guess there's just too many good looking horses out there!

i always laugh at the models because you can sorta see that they have no idea what they are doing. there is a brand here that uses very ummmm.... vogue-like photography and you think 'hmmm i don't think i will be doing that kinda stuff in my jods and shirt thanks. i would like to involve my horse'

My friend knows the owner of a major saddlery in yorkshire and her horses are used as models.
Another friend is used as the 'human' model as she is really pretty. She isnt a professional model though (friend of the owner's son) and she isnt horsey at all (she seams to be scared of mud!).
 
Last year Horseware Ireland advertised that they were looking for models for their Autumn/Winter 2007 catalogue (I think...??). All you needed to do was send an e-mail with two photos of yourself - a face and full body shot - and whether you have experience with horses or not, what age you are etc. I was shortlisted for it (shockingly!!), but some of the people who were finally chosen were experienced eventers and then most of the other people had some experience with horses

It's got so much stuff on it, I don't know where to begin :S
Guess I could write to them, they may just throw it away but you never know..
 
Most of the photos for pony magazine and some of the photos for horse&rider are taken at my yard because the photographer keeps her horse at the nextdoor yard. She phones the YO up beforehand and says I need a child of x age on x type of pony to go xc/ride in the school/canter in the field etc. Sometimes she brings down clothes and rugs for the children and ponies to model and invariably we get to keep them which is a bonus. They tend to pick a yard instead of individual people so they have lots of different horses in one place to choose from. I suppose it could be worth writing to the magazines and asking if they need any more people.
 
I wrote to Pony Magazine when I was a kid and they came to do a shoot at my riding school at the time - I was a cover girl and had to do a really funny article about regaining confidence which involved me literally half of the side of my cantering pony posing for the 'lost confidence' shot to sitting up nicely grinning with my fist in the air for the 'got confidence back' shot!! There was also 6 of us who did an article on drill riding as my riding school did musical rides etc in lessons which was quite fun, and my friend did a series on exercises to do on horse back - one being look to the left, look to the right, look up and look down; she looked like a bit of a muppet!!
It was the middle of Summer though and a really hot day but I had to wear a fleece because it was going to be in a winter issue so I'm really red in all the photos...
 
i wrote to PONY Mag when i was younger and sent them photos of my pony at the time and told that we evented and did pc ect and wandered if i could ever be in an article and they said that if they were ever coming close to the county were i lived they would get in contact with me, but then a year later i left for australia lol
 
I think its pure luck if you or your horse are chosen. I think a lot of the time they probably just call up the nearest yard and ask them?! I always thought the human models in most horsey catalogues weren't professionals because they dont look particularily pretty if you know what I mean?!
 
Yes I know Pony mag often uses entire yards. One time they went through a phase of using my current yard, then they moved to a massive kiddie friendly yard and now they are where R_H stated. Pony mag and Horse and Rider are based around here though, they often go to the yards where their staff have lessons or keep their horses just to snap some extra shots.
 
None of those 'horsey models' can be real horse riders surely - where's there rider's arse and thighs???! I bought breeches that looked fab on the model - soon realised that, although they fit well I don't seem to get the same slim thighs and arse she had!

Misrepresentation me thinks!! ha ha
