Hi :)

Just wondering if anyone has any horses that have modelled?
No I'm not joking :p

I was wondering if the horsey mags use readers horses for covers etc?
Or how you get your horses in to it in the first place?

I'm quite sad & would love to see one of my guys on a magazine cover :)

Our previous dressage horse did a bit. However that was because he had a small amount of sponsorship from a rug company. He modelled some items on the company website. Sadly company was sold and sponsorship vanished!

my last horse also did it for a small local company and is still on their ebay page modelling rugs etc. He absolutely loved doing it

Sorry I don't know how you would go about it for a bigger company or magazine though

Yes!!! My horse was one of the horsewear horses!! He's luckily not in any of the next season's rugs but then I am always getting surprised when I open up a catalogue!

I'm glad you posted this as, I am looking for someone with a calm horse and who has a nice leather saddle (preferably black but not that fussed) with dee rings at the rear of the saddle on the offside who would like to be on my website modelling my new product.
Not a well paid job I'm afraid but they can get to keep the product they are modelling in the colour of their choice.
Must be near Caterham on the Hill, any applicants please PM me, it will include (if they want to) the rider on the horse too, so they will possibly be seen on the website and on ebay all round the world. The photos will possibly be used by retailers round the world who will sell the product as well.
I can come out to photo the products in the next week or two.
Oz :)

I was in PONY Magazine a looong time ago!! :D

Me and a friend wrote to them and begged them to come and do a photoshoot at our riding school, and they did  I wasn't on the cover (dammit :p) but did make the inside cover and a full feature about confidence haha. Still have the magazine 10 years later!

My friends old horse has :)

She sold the horse to a lovely new owner. A week later the new yard had a photo shoot happening with Zara modelling her Musto clothing range. Arranged at that yard as the YM knew the photographer or someone at Musto or something.
Zara was told to pick any horse from the yard to be used in the shoot, and she chose my friends old horse.

The new owners were very happy that their new boy was chosen, and my friend was thrilled, especially as the owners then sent her some of the pictures of him modelling. My friends old horse is now on the front of the Spring/Summer Derby House Catalogue :D

So for them it was just a case of right time and place and the YM having the right contacts!

Typed Directly from HORSE magazine:

Be a cover star

If you own a photogenic horse and think he or she might make a cover star, send one clear image* of him or her to joanna_browne@ipcmedia.com along with your name, age, location and some information about you both.

Own a stunner?

Do you have a stunning image of your horse or pony you want to share with other readers? If so, let us know - send a good quality photograph* to sarah_jenkins@ipcmedia.com along with some information about you both, and your full name and address. If we use your photo in the magazine you could win an amazing Olympus camera, worth £190, to take even more great pictures, or a great prize from Toggi.

* When sending in photos via email, the image resolution should be 300dpi. Pictures taken from websites or with some mobile phone cameras will be too small to print.

(I hope nobody minds me posting her email. My theory was that if it has been published in a magazine available to the public they wouldn't mind!)

I used to do quite a bit of modelling with my old horse for Your Horse mag and Horse & Pony.

I had to wear really bright tops and hat silks. It was good fun and as I live near the publishers I used to go in to look at all the proofs before it went to print.

Wasn't paid for it but did get to keep some goodies like a webbing bridle and body protector used in the shoots :)

My daughter's pony was on the front of Pony magazine a few years ago with his previous rider. I think the magazine visited their pony club and took pictures. He was featured in an article entitled "would you like to be able to jump like this?" showing pics of him SJing.

Perhaps if you have a story to tell you could write to a magazine with some pics and they might publish it - you know the kind of thing - you rescued your horse from an evil owner who starved it and now you are competing on it at Wembley!

yes, we tried to get on the cover of Horse magazine, didn't in the end but K ended up being photographed for an article about feed which was nice.

We were promised a print from the shoot but never got it :(

Still looking for a model about 5-6 miles radius of Caterham on the Hill in Surrey, needs to have a leather saddle (fairly nice one) preferably black but brown will do but MUST have dee rings at the rear of the saddle on the offside. The model's owner may be in the photo if they want and owner gets to keep 2 of the products being promoted in any colour or style they want, any takers?
I can even personalise the products with names inside or whatever you want (business name, logo etc) .A BIG thank you to the ones who have pm'd me so far but they were a little too far away from me.
Oz :)
