My share horse is feeling a bit under the weather but is displaying random symptoms so we're a bit baffled. He's off to the vet this afternoon but just wondered if anybody has any ideas?
He's normally quite a lazy horse anyway but he's particularly lethargic at the moment. I rode just before the big freeze 2 1/2 weeks ago and he was very slightly lame on the off fore in trot for the first 10 minutes (1st time in 10 years I've known him be lame) then was sound but sooooooo slow for the rest of it. He was also wanting to put his head virtually on the floor for the whole ride.
My first thought was back so had it checked and chiro said he had a little bit of tightness in the area where he had a problem a few months ago but it was very slight and nothing like as bad as the problem before - only realised there was an issue then when he was acting a bit odd when jumping. He jumped the week before the latest problem and was fine. After that though he would be sorted.
He then had 2 1/2 weeks off mainly due to snow. His owner rode him at the weekend after the snow had gone and had exactly the same issue but slightly lame on near fore instead. Still very lethargic, head on the floor and his owner had to lead him up the fairly steep hill home as he 'felt like he was going to give up'.
He's eating fine but isn't interacting with the other horses in the field much. He's never been the most social but is definitely keeping to himself more. He's not beating my horse up going to and from the field either which is normally his favourite activity. He's never been very affectionate but tolerates you doing anything to him, and although he's still doing that, it's not quite so happily, he's pulling the odd face which he never does normally. He trots up sound, poos and wees look normal, no more or less than usual. He's not gained or lost any weight. He's 15 and has had a fairly easy life. He's only needed the vet twice before - an abcess and stitches when he tried to barge through a barbed wire fence.
As I said he's off to the vet this afternoon but just wondered if anyone had experienced any similar symptoms. I can't work out if the lameness is causing the other issues or the the other issues are making him feel pain that he could ignore when 100% fit?
I assume vet will do lameness workup and maybe take bloods?
