I was going to purchase a large number of 15kg horslyx for all the horses on the yard. Before i go ahead with the order i would be interested to know what other horse owners think of them. Two horses have joint issue... does the mobility lick make an difference at all? do horses like the taste? do they last long? do the containers break/crack easily? do they help condition your horse? etc thanks

I gave my horse one and never again!! It comes off reasonably ok with a baby wipe but it was all over her rugs, legs, face, in her ears, all over the stable door, wiped along the walls, in her mane and forelock... She has a hand held one as a treat now and again but that's it

I've had one in the past but wouldn't again as they were so high in sugar and he's on a high fibre low sugar diet. He seemed to like it but I ended up covered in it half the time!

Mine had one and loved it (I did too!) but they are sticky. Also, ditto what everyone else has said about the sugar thing. Lastly, I fail to see how a few licks of a Horslyx is going to improve a horses condition/way of going!

Yep, a lovely brown stained nose is not a good look.
They do love the taste but that's because they are effectively lolly pops for horses.

I'm put off by the thought of them encouraging mice and rats in the stable and possibly urinating on them.

I wouldn't want my horse to have one! As above it will just mean molasses everywhere!!! I also wouldn't want my horse to be fed sugar in that quantity!

Why don't you just buy some joint supplement?

I've had a few of the small ones. The horses loved them but they are so sticky they covered everything in sticky brown stains lol
i only ever gave them for 10 mins due to sugar but i don't buy them anymore

Equine heroin. Had to retrieve plastic from their mouths! Only for a treat , ditto himilayan licks, they only seem to slurp at those when they need it.

I wouldnt use due to how sticky they are.A friend bought the mobility lick but to be honest I didnt notice a differencs. My two live out with shelter and have a paddock lick each,i dont find them sticky and normally last my two a month and thats with free access all the time they also have a salt lick each in there shelter and pick and choose when there interested.

Gave my horse terrible diarrhoea as she hoovered so much in one go. They are very effective for distracting a horse eg for clipping or farrier but other than that I wouldn't have one.

I use one of the mini ones as a treat or when I am doing something he doesn't like (looking at wounds or pulling mane etc).

Wouldn't leave him unattended with one though as he would get covered in the stuff and would just keep licking until it had all gone!

Mini one very handy.

I have a low sugar stable lick from dengie which he seems to enjoy.

I gave my old boy a big horselyx, he wad going at it at quite a rate so I took it out and he honestly went mental, really stressy and angry until it went back in, then he wouldn't let in the stable!! So I def second it being horsey heroin!

My daughters pony has one when I ride my boy as he hates being seperated stops him box walking. He has his in his stable in a holder that has a guard so can't eat to much and you can remove it and fold gUard down

My two love them, however...
They get high on all the sugar and then rub their molassed muzzles all over each other and me
When the carton gets near the end they attack it and I end up with bits of plastic everywhere.

I only buy them as a treat now, in the depths of winter, when I don't care if they are crazy with sugar and filthy.

I have one that is kept under a bucket in Alfs field, and comes out for 10 minutes when the mare in the next field is being caught/taken away. It's junk food ,and its not exactly what I'd choose to distract him with, but its a very effective way to keep him quiet. I'd rather he had a few licks of his lolly than galloped around like an idiot, seeing as he's supposed to be resting his dodgy hind legs.

We have had one in my mares stable but she doesn't lick it very often, just when she feels like it. One small rub lasts a year. Sometimes let my youngsters have a little lick but they tend to take it too far and start biting it and kicking it in an attempt to get the taste faster (licking is too slow) so don't really let them any more.

That's interesting to see everyone's replies against Them!
My mare has one in her field with free access, it lasts near on 2 months and she was never stained in sticky orange patches nor does effect her in any way. Our grass hasn't been brilliant this summer, and I found with her pick and added hay she was happier.

would never use again we even bought the holders for the stables

one of them finished it within the night

they were messy ,sticky and full of sugar -- loopy juice for the horse

now use the herbilix ones alongside a Himalayan Salt Lick , we just divide them up as they are larger than the horslyx but they do last a long time

Why didn't I find these when I was looking for something slightly less sugary than Horslyx! Will be ordering one to replace the treacle lolly!

Molassed rubbish imo. Horses would be much better with a Himalayan salt lick or similar.

Absolutely agree, I bought one and my good doer had eaten each one by the following day. I realised it was full of sugar. Sticky and will get bits all stuck on it(like tar). I would avoid and buy an old fashioned mineral lick £2 or the himalayan salt.

I remember buying the box with the lick so I had it for the next time and since spent most of the time tripping over the empty container. I think it cost me £17 years ago.
