Taking my mare to horspital tonight for her operation tomorrow morning :( x

Does she need a horspital bag?!

She's staying until at least Sunday.....maybe til Tuesday. Will she need anything other than her rug? Will she need two rugs?

She's having her hind legs de-nerved if it makes a difference?

Already packed a magazine, grapes and a picture of me to go on her bedside table! Lol x

Best of luck with the op

Best to give the vets a ring, as it does vary. When my horse stayed at my local vets i left her with everything she needed, apart from food, but when she stayed at the big hospital i was only aloud to leave the rug she had on, not even aloud to leave a headcollar, or stable banagdes, they used there own.

Mine don't even want you to leave behind a headcollar. The only thing they ask you to bring is any supplements you feed. Definitely no rugs or brushes. I think that's pretty common practise.

Hope it goes well, don't worry. She's in good hands I'm sure :) Mine was in for nearly a month and she loved it!! I've never known her so happy. They treated her like a queen.

When I took my horse, they wanted the absolute minimum of gear, in case it gets lost. All your stuff should be tagged. I left her headcollar and rope and that was it.

Good luck!

You don't say where you are taking her, but we've found it varies. Rossdales tend to ask you to only leave a headcollar which they tag - they have rugs etc and prefer to use their own so they can keep the hygeine levels as they want them, but when we went to Cambridge Uni, they wanted us to leave everything including rugs and feed suppliments. So the advice to ring is good, then you can go prepared.

It might also be worth taking a notepad when you go to bring her home so you can write down what you want to remember although they should give you discharge notes its not always as detailled as you might like?

Don't know when you were last at the vet school but they don't ask for anything to be left anymore!
