Belle always stares at planes going by... even if they are a dot! Its quite amazing! So have always wondered what Belle would do if she saw a hot air ballon... last night i found out!!

Was quite happily hosing belles legs down when i turned around to see a hot air balloon just skimming the trees around our yard... all the horses were too dumb to look up to see the big multi-coloured thing floating above us, even though they could hear it roaring away, fighting to stay in the air... all apart from belle of course... i recon she must have been a plane spotter in a previous life! haha

she looked up at it, then returned to the bit of grass she was mowing by the hose. I think she then realised that it wasn't a bird, or a plane and that it was something that may be about to abduct her. She thought about having a rear... but that would have made her closer to it... so she kind of crouched down to make herself half the size (not sure how)... her nostrils about 10 times the size... i walked her to the other side of the yard so she couldn't see it, and she did some very impressive piaffe / passage. So, if i ever get to grand prix level. will someone please fly a hot air balloon over? ta

Anyone elses ponios like plain spotting... or have i just got a weird horse? (more than likely)

Corroy is amazed by planes, but hot air balloons are a whole different kettle of fish and is the only thing she is truely scared to death of

i was riding wonka in the school on monday and did not see or hear the balloon coming - well, there was a massive whoosh noise as they put more air in it, i jumped and wonka was amazing, just stood there. the only thing he did after was follow it round the school with his head in the air watching it, wondering what the hell it was! and when others came over he stuck his head in the air so he could look at them! was quite funny, but I feel so lucky he didn't tank off!

I went up in a hot air balloon this morning! It was fantastic! Saw lots of horses and had a good nosey at several yards from overhead. Most of the horses in the fields weren't bothered at all but there was one field with two horses in it that went a bit crazy. I even saw a lady schooling her dressage horse and was obviously running through a test just as we flew straight over her (quite low too) but the horse didn't falter at all!

Mine is fascinated by hot air balloons. When I first got him, i can remember having a lesson with my trainer and it was the day that the balloon race was on at chatsworth faire (we were about 5 minutes away).

The sky was full of very bizarre shaped balloons and we had to halt the lesson for a good ten minutes due to jack nearly falling on his head cos he was too busy sky watching.

I also had a horse many years ago who was fascinated by clouds in summer... the little whispy white ones that move quite fast in the breeze? yea... he'd just stand and stare for hours

Aaaaw he was great. He was a little 15hh leopard spotty horse that came from appleby market.

He was terrified of just about everything in the world but he'd just stand in the field or the school.. wherever and stick his head up and just stare at the clouds; couldnt move him, couldnt get his attention.. nothing :P

My horse is not bothered by them and just looks up as they whoosh and then carries on eating. We have lot's of them here though along with Chinnock air planes and red arrows on their way home...not bothered by them at all. We had a helicopter in the field next to him the other weekend for a wedding and it was going up and down giving rides and banking around his field...he just stood looking at it with flared nostrils! Not bothered really.

We have loads of balloons over ours, have been furious on 2 occassions when they have landed in our fields, and my young horse went berserk the 2nd time.

They arent bothered by anything at height but this was just ridiculous.

we had one coming down over our field this summer, the horses had a great time being pretend scared and running up and down, run away snorting - run back to see if its still there - run away snorting - and so on

most excitement theyve had for ages...
