I have a pair of Liveryman mustang clippers which are getting very hot really quickly - I can only clip for about 15 mins before they need a break. Has anyone else come across this and has some advice?

They were service in 2011 but haven't had much use since.

Many thanks

You may have them over tensioned or it may be the 'brushes' in the motor that are worn and need changing, or it may be the motor itself. Possibly need them overhauled?

I use compressed air in an aerosol, expensive (around £15) but brill for cooling the blades and cleaning out all hair. One can lasts me the clipping season. A good blast every 10 mins and you don't need to stop.

I gave up on my Mustangs for the same reason :-( they went back for a modification under guarantee, worked reasonably for 3 clips, started running hot again, went back for another strip down when nothing was found so I had to pay for the service (fair enough) came back and still got very hot after 5 mins. Gave in and bought another make which have been fine.

Agree with a good clean and oil and making sure the blades aren't over tensioned. Are the blades blunt?

When we clip, we do 2 or 3 long strokes, then clean the blades in a shallow dish of turps/white spirit (run the blades in the liquid) then oil before starting again.

Is the coat you are clipping clean or is it dirty, greasy and matted?
