hot clothing the welsh boy?!

My 3yr old is going to his first party in a couple of weeks time.
He is a welsh D, black (well very very dark brown) he has a beautiful sheen on his coat but could do with a bath. He has a blaze and 4 white socks.
I have no water connection and rather than hire the facilities at local yard i though a few hot cloth sessions would be good enough to remove some of the scurf without giving him a full on bath and just wash the legs with cold water from a bucket and his mega tail (containers)
Never hot clothed before and wondering how to go about it, ie whats nice to use in the water - heard lavander is good? and what is a suitable cloth to use?
Do you think it would work?!! how many attempts for a clean shiny boy?!!
 
I would . . . I hot cloth Kal often throughout the winter to bring up the shine in his coat - particularly after clipping . . . your boy will look fab. Good luck.

Ooooo, I LOVE hot clothing! I don't normally bath, I hot cloth instead and do really well in condition and turnout classes (I'm allowed to say that as it's about the only thing I do well in, I can CLEAN a pony, the riding side of things I'm not so hot at......)

I do it twice, the 1st time with vinegar in (cuts through grease) and then the second time with a tiny bit of oil in (gives a fab shine with no residue when the judge does the white glove test :)). I just buy the cheap hand towels and face cloths from the supermarket and then when they're totally dry just go over them with a sheepskin mit to polish. The best thing I have though is a pair of industrial rubber gloves which mean you can have the water hotter than with marigolds. Just remember to keep rinsing your cloth (have 2 buckets, one for this) and use elbow grease. It's hard work and takes a while to do it well. Mine love having it done and look fab after :)
 
I not cloth the work horses everyday, (show jumpers) I fill a bucket with really hot water add either liquid paraffin, baby oil or detol (after a skin test on new ones) but vinager or lemon juice is good for cutting through the grease and grime I'd do a vinegar one first then a baby oil one if he's a but manky :). The best thing to use is a microfibre cloth or failing that a flannel, but before you do it give the a ally really good rubber curry all over this brings all the grime to the top then hot cloth it off repeat this a few times and he'll be gleaming :)
 
Sounds good then:-) will give it a whirl. He is a very shiny boy anyway so hopefully he will come up like a mirror
 
You seasoned hot clothers might find this strange, but I've never really heard of it until now - what do you do? hot water and vinegar seems a popular mix, so would you just dunk a sponge or flannel, squeeze it out and then rub the pony?

I think I might have a go this weekend . . . sounds much better than bathing all the time.

Yep that's prety much it :)
Very hot water, wring the cloth (not a sponge) out as much as you can (wear thick rubber gloves) and work in circular motions all over.
 
I love doing it too, the shine is amazing, I do it with Dettol and a leather chamois ( car cleaning type) then do it a second time with hot water and a dash of lavender oil and slosh of pig oil, makes my black pony blinding Lol!! I very rarely do a full bath, just at the start of showing season! :D
