Thought I’d give it a go as horse’s coat has quite a bit of grease being brought to the surface since he was clipped. What can I put in the water (if anything) to help? I wondered if a dash of apple cider vinegar might be suitable.

(I’ve just realised that ‘clothing’ is a homograph and the thread title might look a little more interesting than the reality of this question! :D)

I thought you meant infra red clothing, or the battery powered stuff ;)

however yes I have done it a fair bit and always after clipping, usually with some baby oil as that is to hand.

Ive used the barrier healthcare and equimins versions and they are both great for winter washing if you have a sweaty greasy beast. Wouldn't be without them.

I have used those as well I bought a peppermint one in the summer as it's meant to be cooling, mine try to drink it though:D:D
