Only competing horses, when I’ve had them! At least once a week. Often more.

I use whatever I have to hand be that dettol, a bit of dermoline, hibiscrub, or a branded wash

Why do people do this? Genuine question, I've never seen it done, never done it myself, never heard of it except on this forum. What's it supposed to be for?

It's very useful before clipping (on regularly clipped horses) to remove dirt and grease without having to wash in cold weather, and similarly as a grooming tool. And I hot cloth after clipping to remove any grease and tiny hairs that I haven't managed to brush off, rather than rugging all the prickles onto the horse.

I hot cloth every week, especially in the winter. I use Shapleys Number 2 Heavy Oil in the winter and Naf Love The Skin He’s In wash in summer.
It removes grease, sweat, build up, grime etc and is fantastic for keeping the coats shiny. ?

2 buckets hot water
One with dash of fairy
One with dash of fairy and baby oil
Microfibre cloth

first bucket - you are more scrubbing the horse rather than wiping it. Hair in all directions.
second bucket - go in direction of the hair for the final polish.
The way I do it isn’t a gentle wipe but gets them dead shiny. Works really well on a clipped horse.

I hot cloth regularly. I use a splash of baby oil - but patch test it first. A thorough groom still doesn’t get all the dust off, even when using a metal curry comb between strokes. A micro fibre cloth and hot water (steam essentially) lifts it all out.

I always get complimented on having shiny ponies and *touch wood* have never had skin issues with any of them.

It has been very common on eventing and hunting yards I have stabled at or worked on. I never saw anyone else doing it on DIY. I guess everyone had their methods, I like clean horses, but I also like turning my horses out so I have many methods to keeping them clean.

A hot wash, using a cloth not a sponge, then. I thought people were talking about some magical way of laying on hot clothes like they used to do in a beauty parlor for a facial.

It’s not so much a wash though. You use minimal water, as hot as you can without burning, and you wring the cloth right out until it’s almost dry, then really scrub. A sponge doesn’t quite get as deep as the microfibre cloths do. ?

We used to put soda crystals into hot water towel cloth. Everyday after grooming fit hunters and then rug. Removes the last bit of grease that you missed while grooming.

yeah I’m still not getting them wet though like giving them a bath. I only do it in place of a bath in winter after clipping and before shows etc. works a treat.

I first thought it was hot clothes for keeping you warm, had to read it a couple of times ?

I do it a couple of times a week in winter when it's too cold to bath them, especially before and after clipping. I use one capful of dettol, sometimes a squirt of baby oil as well, in a bucket of water straight from the kettle, waiting for the water to cool a little but it should still be uncomfortably hot. Then wipe over with a well rung out microfibre cloth. I have a spare bucket of hot water to clean the cloth regularly and I don't wring the cloth out over the bucket as it cools the water too quickly. The horse should be at most mildly damp after hot clothing, it's not the same as giving them a bath.

I like to hot cloth a freshly clipped horse as it picks up the access hair and leaves a lovely shine, I also do it in winter 2/3 times a week along with a bath. As for what I use, lavender wash no rinse smells amazing and boiling water as hot as you can stand wring out and wipe. So quick ans easy I love it. I also use it for my horses face as he doesn’t like a hose or sponge near his face, but he LOVES the hot clothing.

must confess I thought 'hot clothing' was literally just wiping the horse with a damp warm cloth/scrap of fabric. That's all I've ever done, so this was eye opening and interesting.

Great after clipping and I do it before an event. Wash mane and tail but hot cloth body. It saddens me when I spend time bathing them to ruin it rolling when they go back in the field.

Suffering with Reynauds I can cope with the hot water!!
