Don't know if it's the norm for you lot but for the last few days i've changed the cold water for hot and it makes a much nicer feed - all fluffy and looks like there's lots more too. I won't be going back to mixing it with cold water now, not even when the summer comes!

I like making it hot in the winter, think it's nice for them when they come in for the night. But my horse's loaner believes that fast fibre is heating (in terms of making the horse fizzy) so she won't let me feed him, says I feed him too much. (I generally gave him about 3/4 scoop in a feed but with a lot more water than other people might which does make it seem more)

Yes i make it nice and warm now tje weather had changed...it reminds me of the old times when we used to give a warm bran mash

Friends at the yard all feed spedibeet hot, but I can't feed beet at all asit sends my gelding crazy, so from this week they'll be getting fast fiber and i'll be feeding it warm, Do you mix it in with the feed, or give in seperately?

i started this but one of mine doesnt like it done warm! Turns her nose up lol.

I always use hot water in winter, must be nicer surely - but noooooo!

Mine have theirs made with hot- they have 2/3 of a round scoop of Fast Fibre dry weight and 1/3 of a scoop of power and performance to finish up their summer supplies! It soaks down in no time with two and a half kettle-fulls of hot water and makes up four feeds with HiFi for bite :)

Nope... I still use cold water.

Just to get sidetracked skint1?.. my horses loaner won't let me feed my horse???!!! FFS Man up, not only is your loaner wrong... It is not heating, it is also not her horse and if I were you I'd be telling her how it was going to be...and telling her if she didn't like it she could find another horse... Can't believe you are allowing her to dictate what your horse eats:eek:

My TB loves it made warm, I take 2 x 4pint milk bottle cartons from home and by the time I get to the yard its just the right temperature for him, mixed with HiFi lite and a few carrots it smells lovely, reminds me of bran mashes too!

Here's where loaning goes wrong I reckon... IMO, if you loan a horse, you are saying you trust that person to make good decisions on your behalf. If the horse looks well, then it isn't your business to be feeding the horse- especially if they've given a valid reason. They may be finding that the fast fibre has a heating effect, and in the case of this horse I believe that could be quite serious (sorry skint1, I adore Bella but she is not an easy one!).

My mare likes her mash warm but gets impatient if it is slightly too hot to guzzle it down and so ends up stomping at it to get it on to the floor to cool.

I have been steaming her hay for a week now and it is so satisfying to hear her grunting and snuffling through her pile of steaming hay. Sounds like a little pig and it smells amazing, the yard smells like some kind of brewery or bakery! Love winter!

oops, sorry let me explain, it's not Bella, it's Basil. Though I personally doubt Fast Fibre is the issue, I view it pretty much as Lolo says, you have to give the loaner a degree of autonomy. I'm lucky that he's on the same yard as I am (unlike Bella) there is a lot I would do/did do differently but he looks well and seems happy (I turn him out most mornings and care for him when loaner is away) The only thing I won't compromise on is the farrier, I don't want a farrier whose USP is that he's half the price of the others, there's a reason for that, and foot balance can have a long term effect on a horse that I as his owner would ultimately have to fix.

Anyway, sorry to derail the thread!

Sorry, I took it to mean loaner as in skint still rides her. Aside from the fact that ff is the least heating feed I have ever known. I would say that as someone who has loaned horses out in the past I am pretty controlling as I know my horses, I stipulate how my horse should be kept, tack/bit/feed routine... And alterations are only made following my say so. Ultimately as an owner it is my horse, and trust or not, the responsibility of my horses welfare lays with me as do any changes made to diet/tack/management. Just my opinion.

No, I think it's interesting... I mean I agree in someways, but I think that conversation has to be held and that all parties must be happy.... Say for instance someone approached me and had such strong worries about ff, I would absolutely know that it was not heating, but to keep all parties happy would agree to a change of hi fi light for example, it doesn't do to have loaner worrying or stressing about feed when it can be easily changed. Tack, vets, edt, farriers, etc... Absolute no go areas, unless I absolutely believe there is a real reason with regards to the horses welfare. I remember I had a loaner and another livery on the yard told her to put a different bit in my mares mouth... I could have physically wiped the floor with the other livery:mad::mad: the bit was changed back pronto! On the other hand, I agreed to bit changes and a martingale for competition purposes for a friends daughter... Bit change was necessary, martingale wasn't, but again there was no use in the daughter worrying about not having a martingale whilst jumping as she needed to feel confident and focused to get my mare round the course.

I fed it warm last winter and horse enjoyed it but this year I am adding meta balancer and bute to it and it was refused warm so I wondered if feeding it warm made the taste of bute stronger.
