Hot Hoof .... Lame(ish) Help plaseeeee :(

Well .... had my young lad shod last wednesday with our usual farrier who's been shoeing him for the past 6 months and all was well rah rah rah. Later that day I had the vet out for his annual check up and he was as fit as a fiddle except being noticeably lame on his offside fore. Now this wasn't that apparant in walk yet you could definately see it in trot. Now at this point in time there was no heat in his hoof and i thought it may be due to the splint he had acquired in his field a few days previous ... so he was put on some bute and that was that.
However, the lameness is the same, not very noticeable in walk ... and much so in trot! His hoof is now hot but only near the top of the hoof going round to the back.
Now in my honest opinion I dont think its the splint causing him any issues and I swear it must be something with his shoes as its only occured from the day he was shod.
My friend who also had her mare shod by the same farrier on the same day is experiencing exactly the same problem with her horse yet its the near side fore. But literally the same symptoms .. hot hoof (near the coronet band round to the back) ... lameness predominantly in trot and slightly short in walk ... no heat or swelling in legs either. She has the farrier back out 2 days ago to re-check the shoes but he could see anything?
Is it just a coinsidence theyve both gone lame at the same time?


Can someone offer and opinions?!

Sounds possibly like nail bind, you will need to get the farrier back out to check.

I was going to say possible brewing abcess but as two of you are suffering the same type of problem it does not sound likely, its sound more like you need to speak to the farrier and have him investigate.

I'd have said nail bind too and you need to take the shoe off to find that.

There's a whole list of things that could be wrong from nail binding to bruising even laminitis or bone problems, if I was u I'd probably get a different blacksmith, and have a blacksmith and vet to check it out asap!

Sounds more than likely to be nail bind.

I'd give your farrier a buzz to come and take the shoe off.
