Well it is 27 deg here in the south east and the horses certainly noticed it this morning riding out! We only walked and trotted on a shady route and both horses were dripping in sweat when we got back...through the start of their wooley coats! Anyone out there clipping early because of this? I'm tempted to clip this weekend. What's everyone's thoughts?

Clipped this morning after a lesson on Monday when it became apparent that it needed doing! Was hoping not to, but horse has 3 more events entered, including a long format 3 day, so there was no way I was going to get away with not doing it!

i clipped my lad yesterday as got dressage clinic on sat so he would be sweaty and that means he gets annoyed!! However if you are leaving it to the weekend not sure if i would bother as its to go cooler again next week!!! I only gave my boy a modified trace- all neck off and belly to just behind girth. He will still be able to live out with that even when cooler!

I'm debating the same thing. I am only going to give my mare a blanket clip, and she is now stabled at night otherwise she will be out on her own :( We are going to the beach on sunday to have a bit of a gallop and just debating if i should clip her or not...she gets sweaty just doing 20 mins of work atm! Decisions, decisions!

Clipped big Fuzzy last Sat after checking the forecast for this week.
Little Fuzzy is looking at me as if to say she is calling the RSPCA about me - for cruelty to little fuzzies :( she has a really thick coat & as she got so hot yesterday loafing in her paddock, she's been stuffed indoors during the worst of the heat today.

Will play it by ear for next clip for big fuzzy in about 2 weeks or so. No rugs on at present, happy horse :)

I couldn't be bothered clipping so early! Ours are sweating a bit when ridden, but its nice enough to wash them off and let the dry off naked in the field. They've hardly any fluff so far anyway, and if I clipped them now I dread to think how many times I'd have to redo them over the winter! I can understand it if you're eventing though..

Mine have been clipped and living out naked for over a week now. I don't think they've ever enjoyed such a stretch of furless freedom and they seem to be thriving!

Clipped this morning but it was a bit of a nightmare as my horse was sweating between her back legs and under headcollar just standing there. It was impossible to get the clippers to cut the hair in the places that needed it most. Ended up washing sweat off putting her in the stable to dry and as soon as she was dry whipped her out and clipped before she started to sweat again. Clippers were getting overy hot as well, had to put them on an ice pack to cool them down. If I had known I would have been up at 6 o'clock this morning to do it!

I've been really torn over whether to clip or not. After seeing a forecast for this winter to be worse than the last one I decided not to, as I hardly rode last winter and it saves faffing with rugs. I've decided to leave the woolly ned in the field over these hot few days as it seems unfair to work in it with a heavier coat. Also too sweaty to clip at the moment anyway.

You can guarantee if I do clip the winter will be really awful and I won't ride and if I don't it will be really mild!

I'm doing the same re washing off... but have a comp on saturday and still debating clipping...!

I'm digging out clipping blades even as I type...

Little Cob is sweating buckets just standing in a field (pleanty of shelter and it catches a breeze).

Grey Mare already looks like a teddy bear . Albeit a very cute teddy bear :D

Dizzy is furring up and starting to sweat up after short work, even though she's getting fit.

The clippers will be a whirring this weekend . I don't mind how many times I have to do them during the season, quite like clipping :D

Its not about how many times I have to clip, but that they have to have their rugs "upped" each clip, until they end up with too many rugs on by the end of Feb.

My two are very furry and I think I am going to take the lot off tonight as they are sweating standing in the field. I normally full clip next month, but the long term weather forecast though showing cooler for next week in Essex is still saying in the 20s for next week so they will be more comfortable. I wouldn't ride them in this heat with all the hair they have, so off with the lot tonight.

Hayley, he's a TBxWB, 99% TB tho. He is the hottest horse in the world - last winter was the first time ever he's worn a HW and that was only coz he was kicked in the head during the snow and wasn't eating/moving much.

Yep, new blades purchased, first clip of the season for my friend's horse at about 6 o'clock Sat morning, he's currently resembling a large, orange teddy bear. Thankfully my TB has managed to remain fairly unfuzzy thus far but I suspect we're not going to get away without clipping before our last horse trials of the season.

could not cope with sweat or hair and my poor boy being black was sweating buckets just stood in the field so it all came off tonight dont matter if weather changes as will just put appropriate rug on he will be so much happier while being ridden

Clipped my daughters sec a about 2 weeks ago will prob need doing again, he has legs on but body off all apart from the heart on his bum, i had to as he was sweating every evening when daughter was riding and it was taking a minimum of 40 mins to dry and considering it only take me 20 mins to clip him it makes more sense to do that, espeacially as i clip him myself even if i have to do him every other week it still save me stacks of time!!! She rides for a good hour every evening and tuesday he had 2 hours in the park so its worth it for him, espeacailly the way she works him!!! He may be small but must be the fittest horse on the yard!!! Although he would have dryed quicker this week. I also am a real fusspot and dont like hairy dirty pony!!!! :D

Ive just come in from clipping my TB. just a low trace atm. I wasnt going to bother because once we start to get ice, snow etc I whip his shoes off and dont ride again til March, but he was so hot yesterday just stood in his field (which has plenty of shade) that I figured I might as well take a little bit off as it will grow back quite quickly anyway and I hope to carry on riding until December! I was quite surprised at how thick his coat was, he didnt look that fluffy but I swept up loads!!

YO is doing emergency clip on my girl this morning after a very hot and sweaty lesson last night. Was hoping to put if off until after dressage on Sunday but in this heat she's just refusing to go forward in her woolies.

I'm doing mine today, did the ones at work yesterday. Going to take all off and depending on how it regrows will either full or blanket clip next time. He's so fluffy though it needs to come off!!

Big boy is getting a blanket clip tonight. I'd want to take it all off but he may be having the winter out so at the moment makes sense to do a smaller clip.

He's getting dripping wet with just 20 minutes of work in the school now though, needs hosing off and then takes a while to dry. He'll be much more comfortable with it off, its supposed to stay in the 20s until mid next week at least, and when the temperature drops he can just get rugged as appropriate, its no drama!

My boy had his first clip 2 weeks ago, the day before an ODE. he will have another one next Sat as he has a hunter trial and another ODE in the next few weeks!

He is a TB but a hot horse, and he gets very fluffy!! He lives out a winter with a full clip, just legs and half his head left. He had a 450g rug on during the snow last winter and was toasty warm in it!
