Hi,

My horse has (over past day) developed a hot swollen hock, only one, and its not sore and seems to be filled with something thicker than fluid, there are no visable cuts etc. Have cold hosed and put Stay Sound on.

Any ideas/ suggestions??

I agree that hock infections can be serious but if it was me I would continue to cold hose and turnout. I wouldnt ride but would probably lead in hand. If it hasnt gone down in a few days or if horse goes lame or is stiff then I would call the vet as it could be an infection.

I would hose for about 10 minutes twice a day. When I replied I hadnt really registered about the heat. Is horse lame at all? Keep a close eye on it. If there is still heat and swelling in the morning, I would call vet tomorrow. Problems around the joints need to be taken seriously.
