Hotels in NewMarket?

The Bedford Lodge Hotel or the Rutland Arms - they are both in town - there are no hotels 'near' the racecourse they are all in the town which is about a mile away.:) Depends how much you want to spend really.:)

Thanks! I am looking for something really nice? Don't mind ratnig as long as its nice.

If you really want splash out and make it a trip to remember, go to The Tuddenham Mill. It's about 6 miles out of Newmarket and is AWESOME with a super restaurant. http://www.tuddenhammill.co.uk/ Bedford Lodge is over rated, if you are having a boozey weekend with friends I'd go to The Heath Court - it's clean and cheap. Are you going to The Champions Meeting? You will have to drive or taxi from town to the racecourse no matter where you stay!

They'll be back on the Rowley Mile course by then so the trek to the racecourse from town is not so onerous, although if you are staying at the Bedford Lodge it would be a bit of a walk down the Bury Road to the top of the hill. It might be quicker to walk as town is notoriously bad on racedays for becoming gridlocked. A word of warning for the Rowley Mile course...wrap up warm!! If you are going in October, you might like to coincide your visit with a sale as they take place during that month. Be warned though, if you are planning on staying in town and it's sales week then if you haven't booked a hotel by now, you will most probably not find one!

There used to be a nice place at Swinley Paddocks but not sure if it's still there or trading anymore

Think you mean Swynford Paddocks? It's still trading and worth looking up online. I still think the Rowley Mile is too far to walk to the high street - especially in heels!!! Just stay for longer drinks or if you take your car have a cool bag and cold wine in there to sip whilst the traffic subsides! Champions meeting is the 16th so Book 3 of Tatts is on. Defo worth a trip - selling starts at 9.30am. If you are there for the 15th they are selling at 5.30pm so can catch them on Friday night. If you want to see the horsey folk in their out of work hours habitat - PM me for pub list!!! Also if you get really stuck for accomadation let me know as there are more very good hotels in Bury St Edmunds which is about 10 miles from Newmarket and the racing lots don't use them. Hope that's some more food for thought! Train from London is SO easy. Kings X to Cambridge (get the Express!) and then change for Newmarket. Champions Meeting is my favourite meeting but I am missing it for the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.....

QR - Ditto what LHR said about booking, the sales run for the first couple of weeks and Newmarket really does come alive. Even when the July sales was on there were no hotels with places available so one of our clients had to stay in Cambridge. One that has not been meant is Cadogan Lodge on the Fordham Road.
