I would like to introduce my young horse to hounds but without the worry of taking him to a meet at this stage. Do any hunts allow people out on hound exercise (I am cheshire based). I would like to hunt eventually, but want to try and start him off gently, just in case !!
Does anyone have any experiance of this ?
Thanks

OH, thats a shame. I saw the 4shires bloodhounds advertising hound exercise during Nov and assumed it was a regular thing during the season.
I've only hunted a couple of times before a million years ago, so not familiar with this type of thing. Oh well, roll on the summer then :D

Bloodhound packs might be different, but foxhounds and harriers will be hunting twice a week or more often during the main season. As such the hunt staff will only walk the pack out on a non-hunting day for a leg stretch.

During the summer months they start off taking the pack for roadwork while riding bikes. Then in August the horses start their fitness regime, which is when those wanting to go on hound exercise will be able to join in, as long as they have spoken to either the hunt secretary or kennels first.

Our local bloodhound pack excercise the hounds everyday except the day after hunting (Monday & Thursday) I just ring the kennels and ask if I can go along - all year round.
