Would like to talk my young horse on hound exercise before taking him out proper so will be phoning the local hunt to see what when and where, but before I go and ask anything stupid :) please can you tell me what to expect. Is there a cap ? Whats the dress code ?
Any tips appreciated (not hunted for about 100 years LOL)

Well when I go hound exercising it's just in normal gear, jeans, chaps, boots etc....nothing formal. But that's just our hunt, don't know about hunts in England. Can only remember cubbing with VWH and obviously that was tweed jacket etc.

I am taking my youngster out for his first season too :)

Its not unusual to spend an hour on point at the edge of a copse so great for teaching them patience, do put a green ribbon in his tail to indicate he is an unknown quantity and if not going with anyone then ask the secretary to be paired up with someone sensible. As others have said, tweed with shirt and tie or a coloured stock, cream jods and black or brown boots- joddy boots and half chaps are fine. Waistcoats can be useful on cold mornings and dont forget your gloves. Do take museli/chocolate bars as you always end up starving! Our hunt charges non-subscribers £15 cap or £80 for a autumn hunting sub that takes you up to the opening meet.

I went out with the coakham blood hounds last year on hound exercise a few times, just jeans/jods, warm jacket and high vis, no cap.
We only walked and trotted, it was very good for my novice horse (and me!)
