we have two hound puppies and they are delightful [ at the moment] we have never walked puppies befor and have been told we will be glad to see the back of them come christmas my theory is if they are well exercised and kept ocupied and not left to get bored they will remain a delight they are now following the horses out on excersise every morning and are walked out on foot or with the quad in the evening [depending how knackerd i am] they are loose most of the day around the yard does anyone know if i can 'over do' the walking of them they are always still full of running when we come home i welcome your advice . chrissie

Hiya Chrissie, we had hound puppies years ago and they were delightful, just had boundless energy and turned into big clumsy beasts all too quickly!! Also I recall the absolutely rancid smell of the meat the kennels used to deliver  :( You can overdo exercise with puppies, especially in larger breeds as their bones cannot cope with the stress- it may be worth posting in Dogs to get appropriate exercise levels for them?

With ours, that have just gone back, they had two half hour lead walks a day and loosed on the yard/sandschool 3 times a day for approx 1 hr to get rid of any excess energy!
Like any large breed dog, I would be a little careful not to over do it, but totally agree that a well excercised pup is less likely to cause mischief!!! We had ours 6 mnths and it feels really weird that they are no longer here......
Have fun!

thank you sidney forgot to say we used to lead walk them in th beginning but they are loose now either in the yard or out on excersise do you think we should put them on a lead now and then my thinking they are good and no longer need to be on a lead ?

If you feel in control then by all means have them loose, one of ours was fine off the lead but the other wasn't and would lead the 'good' on astray! It wouldn't do any harm for the occasional lead walk, (assuming you can now hold them!!), as the kennels like them to be lead trained........
How old are they? The only thing to be careful of would be if they one day decide to go off hunting on their own and you can't get them back - mine were getting to that stage at about 7 mnths.
Hope that helps
