I am thinking of having a house sitter next time I go away (September this year). Can anybody recommend someone?

We have 3 horses, who would not require exercise-just normal turnout/stables etc and 3 small dogs (not the type that have long walks!) and are in Buxton, Derbyshire. I would also want someone to stay at the house overnight. What should I expect to pay? I would leave a good supply of food/wine!

Thanks in advance!

I would offer if you were in Somerset lol. Wonder how you get into house sitting, I'd quite happily house sit for those with pets etc. and more than happy to do the horses lol.

hi, i'm not sure. There are companies who do it, they will be police checked and insured. I house sit for several people near me but there are only dogs to look after. All the houses have 2 dogs and i get 20 pounds a day. Are you going somewhere nice?

We are hoping to return to Sorrento in Italy, I have just got back from there and I love it!

I will look in to the companies, thanks!

Hi this was my post from another house sitting thread. Can't help you find someone in your area but hopefully this will give you an idea of what to pay etc
I do alot of house sitting, but the parents often leave the kids too. I charge on depending on what I have to do. If there are no kids and I'm staying over anything between 15 - 30 per night. Also sometimes I end up sorting out washing, kids bedrooms, cleaning, ironing and sorting cuboards plus a whole list as long as my arm. I often get perfume or bottle of vodka as a thankyou as well (but I never expect that) If I'm not staying over and maybe only spending couple of hours doing something I ask for petrol (some ppl are quite out my way) plus 4-6 per hour on depending what it is :) I usually end up doing a shop as well before some ppl come back or unpack tesco's delivary. :)

I have never advertised. Everyone I have worked for has been through word of mouth. I have met loads of families this way.

I would guess about £30 per day for someone local who wants a bit of cash in their pocket, or more if you want a proper insured freelance house sitter (guessing £50-60+ then)

I can reccommend Animal Aunts. They vet thier sitters carefully - very important as you are leaving most of the stuff you value most with them! They have always provided staff who are expereinced with horses (another major worry!) and have had no problem doing things the way I want them done. Obviously i don't know what happens while I am away but when I get back it is always as I would want it.

But I have never and would never ask them to clean my house. And I take my daughter with me!
