We have a 4/5month old Bedlington Terrier puppy and we have had her for a few months and are still sturggling with house training! I feel bad that we she is still not house trained! Are there any other people in the same situation? I'm at school during the day and my sister is at uni, and my dad is disabled so in a wheelchair so not everyone is around! Any help would be appreciated!! [image]http://www.bebo.com/PhotoAlbumBig.jsp?MemberId=846616391&PhotoAlbumId=8567213105&PhotoId=8567224335[/image]

thats reassuring! our friend said her's only took a week! Weel we just take her out as much as possible, and she understands that when we take her out she does something, but when she needs to go, she doesn't understand that she has to wait or pester someone before she can be let out. We do lightly tell her off by saying firmly "no" when she has an accident in the house, she doesnt have accidents a lot, only some days, but websites keep saying that it should only take a few weeks!
Thanks so much!

I have wrote a reply in how did you start to leave dogs? by parkranger....some of that may help...esp if you leave access to the whole house when out, you need to start from small space then gradually increase, and when u are in with her, you need to keep her in the same room and in your sights, this way you can break the action and take her outside, and praise her at the end of any motions she passes outside.
Block of any access she has upstairs unsupervised.
As soon as you return home no matter how long she has been left take her straight out to the garden, from her secure/small area, and make sure she gets lots of walks and exercise.

Just re-read your post...she is very young to go very long periods without a routined/regular access to the garden or walks, can you get a dog walker, or is someone able to offer her access outside during the day?

I rescued a JR from the RSPCA who was born there so really had no idea. They said to keep him in a dog kennel the size of his bed (a dog will not mess its own bed, which he did a few times)and let him out ever hour or whenever around. I work full time so I would let him out first thing, again at lunch and from work at 5 would let him out every hour until bedtime. A week later and he was house trained and eight months on he knows to go to the door! It seems cruel keeping them in the cage for the day but the RSPCA said its the quickest way and you don’t need to tell the dog off as they don’t tend to mess.

Hope that helps and good luck!!
