We had three dogs and my beloved 2 year old Springer bitch was a bit of a "larry" (daughter's terminology) when younger retriever and Munsterlander paired up, leaving her alone and out of all the fun! Feeling sorry for her, I announced to daughter that I wanted springer to have a pal - another springer (daughter screamed and hid!). Rang friend who breeds springers - no puppies...visited local gun dog trainer who gave me local number for springer pups - all sold! Ended up travelling 90 miles to Norfolk Broads to buy one! When we got there, breeder told us that she'd sold four, but five remained since most people wanted docked pups for shooting but these had tails (which we wanted), so, when we had problems chosing which bitch to buy, she offererd us BOGOF...buy one get one free or two for the price of one! I naturally said no, putting the ball firmly in my daughter's court who will tell you that I said "NO!" with my mouth but "YES YES YES!!!" with my eyes..........we now have FIVE dogs!

Now, I have a house-training problem.....(our Munsterlander, now 5 months, was SOOOOO easy!!!). They pee and crap ad lib....they don't follow the after eating, when they wake up, after exercise bit - they just deposit - pee or otherwise! I stand in the garden shouting "Bizzy bizzy!!" - nothing......you come inside......puddle on lounge floor.....or worse!

We're worried that being sisters, Ruby and Libby (Libby - short for Liberty as in Liberty and Livelihood!), will bond to the exclusion of us. My questions are...(a) Has anyone had pups from the same littter and (b) help please, house training!

we've recently bred a litter and kept 2 pups, they are so much harder to house train than 1!!

we made a pen in the kitchen and just put puppy pads down which they learnt to go on then kept putting them outside with the puppy pads which taught them to go outside. Its finally now just starting to work, they've both got the idea to go outside thank god!! it must have taken about twice as long as 1 pup though!! good luck!!

i think its makes it worse too cause obviously they're doing twice the mess!! little darlings!!

Have you got any pics?? I've put one of eddie below, would love to see them, we've got a springer with a full tail, he's lovely but it bruises when it hits!!!

They're 5 months now and only just house trained, never had this much trouble before!! Eddies started to mark things now too because he's the only dog with 5 bitches, he loves it!!!

We always have puppies from the same littler in our rescue....inc 3 ridgebackxmastiffs we have in at the minute...but we always use crates....they are not allowed to run around the house unsupervised.
So basically first thing on a morning..., straight out for wee and poo and left out till they perform......then back in for breakfast....then back out after breakfast.
Then playtime out side midmorning...then back in crates.
After each meal...straight out....and everytime we leave the house and return...they are straight out.
They come in to the living room at night for puppy play time with us....but out for pees and poos before they come in...then out again before back to their crates.

We dont stand over them or stay in the garden whilst they are going for wees and poos as they are more interested in us and will run to us for attention....we watch from the window and when we see them crouch for their business we then go and praise....but not overdoing it...just GOOD BABY...weewees

then run back in to let them have a number 2.
I think it all about routine....and keeping them confined to certain areas of the house until trained......crates are ideal for this....they where all crated together until about 2 weeks ago...as they are to big....but they dont do athing in their crates or when out in the house for supervised play.

I think its also about only letting them out for little and often periods when they are still babies and not being out all the time as an adult dog would be....giving them options to piddle anywhere at any time.
Hope that makes sense

Yes, we have a crate and try to keep to a routine, but their "toilet habits" don't appear to fall into a routine/pattern! They are gorgeous though, and I will try and get my act together to post some pics! Their toilet habits just don't seem to fall into the normal "timetable"! Five months before your pups were clean....frightening.....thank God for wood flooring - I've just taken up all the rugs!!!!!

We've just kept two from our latest litter (Bridget the Midget being one of them) and have this time round (having done it once before and vowing never to do it again) found they've been no harder to train than a single puppy.

I'm not sure what to suggest, our back door is left open nearly all day and our girlies just seem to make their own way out to go to the toilet. They obviously still have accidents as they're only 18wks old but they're getting their.

I've just dozed off for half an hour waiting for daughter to appear (she's not -she's staying with a friend tonight!) and woken to seas of crap and pee over the floor! They seem to pee and crap above and beyond the call of duty! Like I said earlier, no amount of chucking out regularly seems to help! Also, I've been spraying newspaper/puppy pads with "puppy rainer" wihtout any success wharsoever. Am I doomed to be the dog lavatory attendant for ever?? (nooooooo....plsease!)

They are so gorgeous! My two also have the naughty spot on their heads

As others have said, it's about routine and repetition. They will get it eventually.

We made a massive effort to spend some one to one time with each of ours (2 cocker brothers) each day to try and make us more exciting than each other (if you see what I mean!) I wanted them to listen to us and not go off and do their own thing together. It seems to have worked :)

CaveCanem - like you, I've just found my thread has been responded to less a month ago......even though I posted it almost four years ago:eek:!!!! How did that happen:confused:?????? However, even though Ruby and Libby Springer are now four years old, we still refer to them as "the puppies"!!!! :)(But at least they're fully house-trained now - even though it was one hell of a job!:D)
